• Oudong Temple - Oudong served as the seat of royalty from 1618 until 1866 before the seat of power shifted to Phnom Penh. The landscape is dotted with numerous temples and stupas across three hills. Visible from great distances, these large stupas house the remains of various Khmer monarchs, including King Monivong (1927-1941) and King Ang Duong (1845-1859). Ascending the hill via a staircase of over 500 steps is not only a great physical activity but also offers a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Additionally, these hills were a stronghold of the Khmer Rouge’s most tenacious stand against the Vietnamese forces in 1979, and a memorial has been erected here in honor of those who fell victim to the Khmer Rouge’s brutality.
