Additional Information

On our trip to Furnas, we begin either on the North or South coast, traveling along hidden roads with breathtaking views. A visit to the tea plantation is always refreshing, featuring a beautiful garden on the mountain with camellia sinensis. This tea is produced on-site at the only natural tea factory in Europe, established in 1883, where the famous Azores tea, both Black and Green, is made—a tradition taught by the Chinese in the 19th century. You can savor the renowned Azorean stew, a traditional dish cooked in the Caldeiras das Furnas near the lagoon. If the weather allows, take a dip in the thermal waters of Jardim Terra Nostra or Dona Beija das Furnas (entrance fees not included). We return via the south coast, enjoying numerous viewpoints and beaches along the way, with a stop at Nossa Sra da Paz to admire Vila Franca do Campo, the island of São Miguel’s first city. Join us on this adventure to discover true volcanism and stunning landscapes.
