THE SKELETON OF ERSTWHILE BRITISH CAPITAL OF ANDAMAN. - Ross Island , once the capital of British Andaman. It had a PARIS look with all facilities . An Armed Soldier Barrack was available . Indian Market and British Market were available, There was a Bakery , Conference Hall, Commissioner Bungalow, Church, Water purifier house, Commanders residence. The second Jail apart from Cellular jail, Cook house etc were available those days. During 1943 when Japanese captured this Island with the help of Indian National Army, they destroyed everything and killed every one. Now only the remains are available. Before indepence of India in 1943 the Indiaian Bational flag was hoisted by Netsni Subash Chandra Bose in this island. Today the Island is renamed as NETAJI SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE ISLAND. No water sports here. Tourist can go by Electrical car. But it is waste. Better walk and click the entire island. There is a light house and a statue of a soldier at the end of the island. Every where you can see spotted deer. There is a boat service from Marine Boat jetty to ROSS ISLAND AND NORTH BAY ISLAND. The arrives at Ross Island is only going to North bay Island. A NEVER MISS , MUST SEE LOCATION IN PORTBLAIR.

Last minute cancellation - We had booked this tour via Trip Advisor with Yo Tours on Mar 21 for 4 pm. Our host at Port Blair told us this was simply not possible since the last boats from Ross return at or around 3 pm. We called Yo Tours to check on the morning of the tour and they called back quickly to say the tour was cancelled! We got a reminder from Tripadvisor the day before the tour and NO communication from Yo Tours until We called and checked. Yo Tours reps were polite and helpful on the day. They also promised a refund without prompting - and we hope it will come quickly. The scary thing is that we found out by sheer chance else would have shown up at the Phoenix jetty at the wrong time and wasted our holiday time. We appreciate these are fluid times but we would have really found it helpful if Yo Tours had called us in advance and let us know since we were in Port Blair only for two fairly packed days . Automated reminders from TripAdvisor are also not helpful since they are not reflecting the latest information.

Save your money and don't book this! - There was absolutely no correspondence from Yo tours, tried reaching out through call, WhatsApp, email and nothing. Still showed up at the meeting point and looked around for their guide for around 20 mins. On checking with the enquiry office of Pheonix bay jetty got to know that boats for Ross Island don't even leave from this jetty. Don't know why it's listed as a meeting point at all. TripAdvisor should just remove this listing. It's absolutely nonsense. Here's what to do instead: Go to Rajiv Gandhi sports complex, there'll be plenty of boats leaving every 30 mins for Ross Island. Get the ticket for ₹370 at the entrance. In Ross Island you'll easily get a guide. Ask for Anuradha aunty, she's a lovely person who has a cute relationship with all the deer on the island. You can pay her ₹300 for a wonderful and intriguing walk around the island and the ruins and feed the deer as well. You're done in ₹670. Just go yourself and save yourself some time, money and your vacation.
