Highlights
  • Port Louis - Begin your day by exploring Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius. Ascend to Fort Adelaide, also known as ‘The Citadel’, a 19th-century military fortress with a walled courtyard and sweeping city views. Next, wander through the central market, the Grand Port Louise Bazaar & China Town. Admire the wide variety of clothing, local produce, and exotic spices. Continue your shopping at the beautiful Caudan Waterfront.
  • Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden - Visit the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, now known as the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, a must-see in the north. It is the oldest botanical garden in the southern hemisphere, established in 1735.
  • L’Aventure Du Sucre - Once a sugar factory, L’Aventure du Sucre was carefully restored after its closure in 1999, following 200 years of operation. It is now a leading heritage site for cultural tourism in Mauritius. The ecomuseum features a 5,000 m² educational trail and 10 interactive thematic areas, revealing the history of an island shaped by sugar and the secrets of cane. This remarkable plant is used to produce sugar crystals and various co-products, including rum, bagasse for electricity, and natural fertilizers.
  • Mont Choisy Beach - The longest beach in northern Mauritius, Mont Choisy stretches to Trou aux Biches and Pointe aux Canonniers. The beach is easily identified by its arc-shaped coastline. Lined with large casuarina trees, it boasts white sand and turquoise waters, typical of northern Mauritius beaches.

At the entrance of Mont Choisy Beach, you’ll find a monument commemorating the first flight between Mauritius and Reunion. Mont Choisy Beach is perfect for a family day out, offering plenty of space. A stroll along the coast will lead you to a quiet spot for lunch or a walk to appreciate the beach’s beauty and curves.

  • Grand Baie - Grand-Baie is a village in northern Mauritius known for its sandy beaches, including the secluded La Cuvette and the sailboat-dotted Grand-Baie Public Beach in a sheltered cove. The popular Pereybere Public Beach is to the northeast. The village also features restaurants and lively bars, and vendors at the Grand Baie Bazaar sell handicrafts.
  • Pereybere Beach - Pereybere is a small beach in northern Mauritius, easily found along the coast road between Grand Bay and Cap Malheureux. It is one of the most popular beaches in Grand Bay, offering various water sports, a clear turquoise sea, and white sand. Pereybere is a favorite among tourists and locals, especially on weekends. A swim in the clear waters of this enchanting beach will make you fall in love with it.

Pereybere is ideal for family swimming, with calm seas perfect for children and inexperienced swimmers. Vendors sell exotic fruits and ice cream near the beach, and nearby restaurants offer diverse menus.

  • Notre Dame Auxiliatrice - Don’t let the name Cap Malheureux (‘unfortunate cape’) deter you. This charming fishing village on the island’s northern tip is far from unfortunate.

The simple church of Notre Dame Auxiliatrice, with its bright red roof contrasting against the blue sky, turquoise waters, and dramatic Le Coin de Mire headland, is one of the island’s most photographed spots.

Feel free to visit the church, either to join a mass or to see the holy water basin made from a giant clam shell.
