Wonderful tour all round! - We came in on a cruise ship and this worked with the time we had, so don’t be afraid of that. Wendell our guide was punctual and very kind. The biggest surprise was that it is the first time I have seen the word “Private tour” and it actually was just me and my guy. Wendell gave us lots of information about Trinidad as we knew nothing about it! We went up into the mountains to get to Cafe Mariposa Gardens. It is a family owned business which uses locally farmed foods to make up their menu. The day we went, there were four of the seven sisters there to feed us, serenade us and tell us some local history. For me the best part was the hummingbirds. There were so many varieties! There were other pretty birds as well. I truly enjoyed walking around the gardens looking at the different plants. My guy had the fish which we were told they caught in their own pond! The sorbet at the end was fabulous, and I wasn’t feeling well from too much sun the day before.

5 stars! - What a unique and beautiful day! We felt privileged to be given such wonderful hospitality by the sisters and family. Setting is amazing, seeing hummingbirds was magical and the food was super delicious. I would recommend this trip to all visitors of Trinidad. Wendell our guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the people. Thank you

Do yourself a favor and sign up! - We didn’t really know what to expect but this tour was one of the highlights of our cruise. Anthony, our driver, was very knowledgeable and obviously proud of his heritage. He went above and beyond showing us some of the island which wasn’t included in the tour. And the Mariposa Gardens was spectacular. The Guerrero sisters are such gracious hostesses and great cooks! We started by sipping on homemade cocoa tea and then enjoyed a delicious Trinidad-style lunch sitting on the patio surrounded by local plants and hundreds of hummingbirds serenading us and showing off their beauty. As a bonus, the sisters sang to us and shared the history of the area and their family. It was such a delightful day. My description doesn’t do it justice. Go visit this family and experience it for yourself.

Amazing lunch, but tour a bit disappointing - The 3 course lunch at Cafe Mariposa was AMAZING! The flavour of the dishes especially with the cocoa theme was some of the best food we've experienced. We gave the experience 3 stars because we booked a Private tour but ended up having to share our mini bus part of way with a group of Japanese tourists because their mini bus had broken down. Not the experience we wanted on our honeymoon. Also, without consulting us, the tour operator told the restaurant we wouldn't be having the tour of the restaurant gardens, which was something we were really looking forward to. We were invited to join the same group of tourists on a tour to the local brewery but declined. If we were offered another private tour we probably would have accepted. Also the actual Lopinot cultural site was undergoing renovations so we couldn't tour the historical house on the site. All in all we would absolutely go back to the restaurant but the other aspects were a bit lacking. It felt like we paid alot of money for a lunch. Skip the rest and go straight to lunch, you'll love it.
