Our Lady of Victories (The Portland Soldiers and Sailors Monument) - Our tour will begin here by the green Monument Square clock. Travelers will see the lovely Monument Square which features Our Lady of Victories Monument. This is the most prominent piece of public art in Portland. It was constructed in honor of the soldiers and sailors who lost their lives in the Civil War.
At this location travelers also get an up close look at the towering Time and Temperature building. This is one of the more haunted landmarks in Portland where spirits are said to roam the halls and ride the elevators. - Maine Historical Society - Our guide will take you to the grounds of 1800’s poet Henry Longfellow Wadsworth childhood home. During the time to Longfellow and Wadsworth families occupied this home it has seen at least six deaths. Tour guides and visitors a like have seen the ghost of Henry Longfellow Wadsworth here too.
- 475 Congress Sq - Travelers will learn about the Time and Temperature building and the ghost who rides the elevators.
- 120 Free St - Travelers will gather here to learn about Portland’s haunted underground tunnels.
- McLellan-Sweat House - The McLellan House is one of the oldest homes in the city. Built in 1801, during Portland’s “Golden Age”, this grand Federal-style mansion has witnessed over two centuries of history. It has been owned and lived in by several prominent Portland families over the centuries. Travelers on the tour will hear about the ghosts who have been seen and heard enjoying elegant balls from decades long past.
- Portland Fire Museum - Travelers will learn about the Great Portland Fire of 1866. When this fire occurred it was the worst fire in American history.
- Victoria Mansion - Built in 1860, it’s recognized as one of the finest examples of large Italianate brownstone in the United States.
95% of this homes furnishings are original. The mansion remains largely the same as it did almost 200 years ago.
The music room is considered to be especially haunted. It features a seemingly haunted piano. Visitors and guides have been treated to a spectral serenade. This haunting performances by an unseen presence continues to captivate and unsettle all who hear its ghostly music. With so many of the furnishings being original might it be possible that a musical spirit or two are still attached to this elegant piano?
