Additional Information

The moments preceding dusk present the ideal paddling opportunity on Casco Bay’s waters. The skyline often bursts into vibrant hues and the sea usually becomes mirror-like and tranquil. This excursion involves a relaxed paddle, enough to admire a sweeping view of the sunset over the city while we return to the East End Beach. This two-hour journey is suited for all paddling skill levels, even for beginners in kayaking.

The specific course we follow depends on the weather and the group’s desires and abilities, however, the Sunset Tour typically begins exploring Portland harbor’s waterfront, followed by the open seas towards Casco Bay’s islands.

We will call off this tour if there’s consistent rain, high winds or any conditions that we believe will interfere with an amazing paddling experience. But, we will carry on with our tours in light drizzles, cloudy skies or slightly cool temperatures.

Small Group Kayaking Tour - This was a wonderful, memorable trip. We are not kayakers, but our guide, Joe’s, love of the the water was infectious. He shared many interesting stories regarding the history of Portland’s harbor. The staff provides all the gear, and you will get a quick lesson and tips. Then you are on the water. Great fun.

For the sunset chasers - As a solo traveler it’s always fun doing tours and meeting all different kinds of people from all over. It was the perfect day to do the tour and the sunset was absolutely beautiful.

Fantastic Evening Kayaking - My wife and I are late 60s, fit and active. We did the 2 hour sunset tour and had Joe as our guide We had a blast! Joe was absolutely wonderful. You can see he genuinely cares about the guests. He involves everyone and makes sure the pace and activity level works best for the group. If water/weather contact unsafe he will adjust as needed. We honestly felt like he was a friend we had know for a long time with him. The tour itself was just right for us. I do have hip arthritis but Joe was great and helping me maneuver in/out of the kayak. We went out to a couple of islands, saw some wildlife while he told us about the history of the area. Best of all was the return trip at sunset. Absolutely beautiful To us this was a def 5 star evening. For someone who wants more aggressive kayaking maybe it’s not. But it’s still a beautiful area to explore Lastly, free parking is available, there is a beautiful park area to sit and relax. All the employees of Paddleboat we talked to in person or by phone were wonderful. This is a well run operation Thanks again Joe. You were fantastic Bob & Donna Th

Great experience for North Carolina couple - Chloe is an outstanding guide and very patient with us kayak newbies. We have never been kayaking before and were worried about our lack of skill. Chloe made the whole experience comfortable and we were able to focus on the beauty of the landscape that Portland has to offer.

Amazing Experience - Such an amazing way to experience Portland! Guides are knowledgeable and offer local insights into the city. I will say it was pretty physical, my friend and I are both in our mid twenties with no physical impairments and definitely felt like we got a good workout in. Just keep that in mind but if you CAN do it, do it!!

Top notch tour! - The kayak tour to Fort Gorges was well worthwhile, and our tour guide, Janet, was AWESOME! She was so full of knowledge about everything you might possibly ask about Portland, the food, its history, the bay, Fort Gorges, and countless other things. I even got to go for a swim trying to get out of the kayak after the tour was over 😂😂😂🤣🤣! Highly recommended!!!

Not really as advertised - Joe was a very nice guide, and very knowledgeable about the area, but overall we were very disappointed in the experience. It was a shorter time on the water than advertised, and we only paddled around in a small area. We got to the area where we would be able to see the sunset, but left that area well before sunset. We spent way too much time just sitting on the water while Joe was telling us about the area (interesting, but not what I was wanting to do). The only wildlife we saw was sea gulls.
