- Cannon Beach - Cannon Beach is a must-see on any coastal trip, offering breathtaking beaches with dramatic landscapes, rainforests, saltwater taffy shops, art galleries, and seafood restaurants. The history of the area will be discussed, including why it’s called Cannon Beach and not “Cannons” Beach, as well as the history of the Clatsop tribe and other coastal peoples like the Salish. Recommendations for lunch will be provided, and ample time will be given for exploration.
- Haystack Rock - This remarkable rock, featured in several films including the 1980s “The Goonies,” is home to numerous seabirds. Visitors will get close enough for excellent photos, though the rock itself is off-limits as it is a sensitive nesting area for murres and tufted puffins.
- Ecola State Park - Ecola offers a unique landscape, a coastal rainforest with ancient Sitka spruce and Western hemlock trees, numerous ferns and berry plants, and wildlife right on the edge of Cannon Beach. Time will be spent here, allowing for a hike to the viewpoint overlooking another movie filming location—beach scenes from “Twilight” were filmed here. If desired, a hike of 1-3 miles (2-5 km) in the forest at Ecola is available.
- Indian Beach - This beautiful beach, featured in several movies including “Twilight” and “Point Break,” will be visited either as a hike destination or a special stop, depending on weather and group preferences.
- Tillamook State Forest - The Tillamook State Forest is one of the many county and state forests passed through on the return journey from the Oregon Coast. Observant travelers will notice many of the flowers and trees learned about at the coast, along with species that thrive only in the higher elevation mountain passes.
- Camp 18 Museum - This logging museum, located on the route to and from the Oregon Coast, is a popular stop for admiring old tractors and equipment, picking up a gift at the eclectic gift shop, and, if desired, trying one of their famous enormous cinnamon rolls.
- Neahkahnie Mountain Trail Viewpoint - Weather permitting, a stop will be made at this iconic viewpoint for breathtaking views of Manzanita Beach below.

The Oregon Coast is an experience like no other and our guides have selected a quieter, slower approach to the day: a visit to Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach; hikes through old-growth forests to views beyond what the common tourist sees; up-close encounters with the iconic monoliths that make the Oregon Coast so unusual; a lunch stop in a sweet beach town; recommendations for our favorite cinnamon rolls, pie or ice cream; sand (if you want it) between your toes. Day tours can feel long but ours feels more like a just-right exploration with plenty of time to sit however you like with the majesty of the ocean – or spend most of your time wandering in the forest as you listen to waves crash beneath you. If you choose to walk with us in the forest, your day will include some short but steep low-elevation incline hiking.
- contact us about infant accommodations
- the hiking options require ability to manage short but steep inclines; travelers with health concerns should consider that
