  The Serra do Pilar Monastery is a solemn 17th-century church. It has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1996. The Church, designated as a National Monument, is notable for its circular design, topped by a grand hemispherical vault, encircled by a balcony, and crowned by a lantern. Inside, the gilded and white carved work is remarkable.
  It retains a beautiful cloister, also a National Monument, with a circular vault supported by 36 Ionic columns. This Mannerist monastery is unique in Portugal, as both the church and cloister are circular, a design derived from civil architecture. Its strategic location was significant in 1809 during the Napoleonic invasions and in 1832-33 as a military base during the liberal wars.
  Elevated to a fortress, it has since been transformed into military barracks.

• Ponte de Dom Luis I - The Ponte D. Luís I (or Ponte Luiz I, as originally inscribed) is a metal bridge with two decks, constructed between 1881 and 1886, linking the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia (northern and southern banks, respectively) across the Douro River in Portugal.
• Ponte Infante Dom Henrique - Named in honor of Infante D. Henrique, born in Porto, this is the newest bridge connecting Porto and Gaia. It was built to replace the upper deck of the Louis I Bridge.
• Ponte D. Maria Pia - Inaugurated on November 4, 1877, and closed on June 24, 1991, it was succeeded by the St. John Bridge. It is considered, along with the Viaduct of Garabit, as one of the greatest masterpieces by engineer Gustave Eiffel. At its inauguration, it was the bridge with the largest iron arch in the world. It has been a National Monument since 1982.
• Ponte de Sao Joao - Unlike the other bridges built over the Douro River in Porto, the Ponte de São João is not arched but features a continuous multiple portico with vertical pillars, comprising three spans: a central span of 250 meters and two side spans of 125 meters, supported by two pillars in the riverbed.
