Magnificent tour of the Douro - Joao Jesus was the host for this tour of the Douro Valley. There were 5 of us in this group; my wife, my adult son and daughter and her husband. We were hopeful for this tour, as previous reviews for both the tour and Joao were uniformly incredibly good. Joao picked us up on time in an exceptionally comfortable vehicle. He immediately put us at ease and we were off for one of the best days adventure we have ever experienced. This was the best way to see the Douro Valley - everything from our first coffee stop to our first wine/port tour at Sandeman, perfect lunch at a traditionally local restaurant owned by an amigo of Arnold Schwarzenegger, boat tour from Palhao to the second tour at D’Origem with one of the most stunning views of the precious Douro. It was the perfect way to see the river and learn of its importance and history. Joao made it happen with intelligence, knowledge, enthusiasm, kindness, pride in his country and patience. He was helpful in every way, even providing suggestions for activities and food of interest in and around Porto after he dropped us back at our home base. We owe him tremendously for the great memories of this tour.

A perfect experience that will never be forgotten - ✔️🚘 It was comfortable even though there were many curved roads. (Nuno Magalhães is good at not only driving but also taking pictures. Thanks!)
You don't have to worry about carsick.
✔️🎤 Gisela Almeida is very knowledgeable about Portuguese culture (music, wine, history, etc.). And she was so humorous that I lost track of time listening to her story. 👍🏻
✔️🍷You will visit two wineries. One is a big brand which is famous all over the world, and the other is a place that has been run for three generations by families. Each has a different charm. Both wineries introduced excellent wines, and I bought a bottle of each there. It was a pity that I could not buy more because I didn't have enough room to put them in my luggage.
Thanks to Nuno Magalhães and Gisela Almeida, I became very interested in wine, and want to visit other wineries with them.

Must do tour while in Porto! - This was a fantastic tour, I highly recommend it!! We could never have seen so much of the Douro Valley or appreciated Portuguese as much on our own. Our guide Joao was incredible—extremely knowledgeable, accommodating, and just a really great guy. His personality and passion for his country and his job really took this tour to another level

Highly recommend this winery tour :) - Thanks to Gisela, it was one of the best tours I have ever experienced. We had a small group tour, and Gisela took us to local cafes and restaurants that we would not have visited without her. She explained the history of wine production and shared fascinating details while driving to both small and large wineries. :) I highly recommend this tour with Gisela! :)

Dream Tour - Simply perfect experience touring a stunning area. Our driver, David Mutinho, picked us up at our hotel in a comfortable Mercedes van a whisked us around more places than I had imagined we would have the opportunity to experience in one day. Truly a packed and long day, but we were so informed and entertained by David (impressive knowledge about EVERYTHING we asked or saw) the entire time. It was my daughter’s 22nd birthday and everyone we encountered made it all the more special. I can’t recommend this tour with David highly enough.

A perfect day in the Douro - We made the tour on December 1st and, by our luck, we were the only couple of the day, which turned the tour into a private tour.
João was an amazing guide, explaining everything carefully, removing any doubts we might have and treating each other as if we were longtime friends. He also gave us tips for the other travel days we would spend in Porto and all were very helpful. We couldn't ask for someone more attentive and friendly.
The tasting is great (we spent in 2 wineries with very different proposals, learning a lot about the process of each) and the lunch was very good too. I recommend and if you are in the area again would do it again.

Must See Douro Valley Tour when Visiting Porto - We almost skipped visiting the Douro Valley since my wife doesn’t drink wine and the distance from Porto but we are so happy we did. The Douro Valley is the “Grand Canyon” of vineyards! We have visited many wineries around the world and the Douro Valley is head and shoulders above the rest. The views are spectacular! The wine tasting experience was phenomenal especially at Sandeman. We were blown away by the tour and tasting room overlooking the valley and river. We also visited a smaller winery with a different but equally impressive view and tasting which also included a tasting of olive oil. Between the two different wine tastings, we stopped for lunch at a local restaurant where we found the dishes to be tasty and plentiful. We booked our small group tour with Meridian4People and João was our guide. We are so happy we did. Our guide, Joao met us on time with a fairly new Mercedes van for a day of wine tasting with just us. Joao was an outstanding guide who spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable about the Douro Valley, wines, port, and all things Portuguese. João takes pride in his job and it shows. It was one of the most memorable days we spent during our 10 day visit to Portugal. Thank you Meridian4People and João for making it so! I highly recommend this tour company and guide.

Douro Valley Small Group Tour - My husband and I had a wonderful day with Gisela and Chris and it ended up being a private tour with them the whole day!
We enjoyed a quick stop in Amarante for coffee and a light breakfast before getting back on the road to our first tour and tasting at Quinta do Seixo-Sandeman for port wines. Following our tour, we stopped in a small town for a great local lunch and wonderful conversation. After lunch, we spent an hour cruising along the Douro River viewing the beautiful landscapes from the water. Our last stop of the day before heading back to Porto was a small family run winery and olive oil producer with stunning views of the valley.
Definitely recommend this tour for those looking for an intimate group size with a variety of tastings!

Favorite Portugal Tour... Small Group makes Big Memories! - A fantastic day with an amazing guide and driver. We so much appreciated the stories, history, and food from the Douro Valley. Gisela took great pictures, told amazing stories, and played great music. Chris the driver is ready to bring his amazing experineces to future travelers too. The tours, boat trip, and great food just kept getting better. Our small group tour was top rarated.This is a lifetime memory.

A Great Day Trip from Porto - This was a wonderful day trip from our hotel in Porto to the Douro Valley. We had a chance to see how Port is produced and to sample. Included a boat ride, olive oil production, a tasting of Douro wine, and a boat ride on the Douro River. Gisela our guide and Chris, our driver were fantastic. They were friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. They really made the day for us. Would highly recommend.
