Highlights
  • Porto - Your journey begins at our Meeting Point near S. Bento Station, where you’ll meet your guide who will drive you to Amarante, our first stop. On the way to the Douro Region, your guide will share insights about Portuguese history, development, and cultural heritage.
  • Amarante - Amarante, our first stop, boasts the majestic Serra do Marão and the Tâmega River, which flows through the city, enhancing the charm of its picturesque houses. The city, possibly founded by the Roman centurion Amarantus, connects the provinces of Minho and Trás-os-Montes. In the 13th century, St. Gonçalo, a Benedictine monk and the city’s patron saint, built a bridge over the Tâmega. Amarante is also famous for its sweets, including papos de anjo, brisas do Tâmega, toucinho do céu, bolos de São Gonçalo, and galhofas, which can be found in local cake shops and cafés.
  • Miradouro de Sao Leonardo de Galafura - Our second stop, at 640 meters high, is the São Leonardo da Galafura Viewpoint between Vila Real and Peso da Régua. This spot offers breathtaking views of the Douro River and the steep, vineyard-covered slopes of the historic Trás-os-Montes region.
  • The Douro Valley - It’s now time for lunch! Your guide will take you to a local restaurant where you will enjoy a delicious traditional all-inclusive Portuguese meal. Try some of the most traditional Portuguese dishes paired with local Douro table wines. (A vegetarian option for lunch is available; please request it during the booking process.)
  • N222 - The N222 road is considered the most beautiful road in the world and takes us along the south bank of the Douro River, offering miles of pleasure, fascination, and stunning surroundings into the heart of the Douro Wine Region.
  • Cais do Pinhão - Time to sail on a scenic Rabelo boat, flanked by terraces where the vines that produce our renowned Port wine grow. The view from the river to both banks, in areas where only vineyards and wine farms exist, is a unique experience.
  • Pinhão - For an authentic vineyard experience, you will visit a vineyard estate in the heart of the Douro Valley. Discover the secrets of the vineyards as you take a guided walking tour through the property, stopping at points of interest along the way and taking in the magnificent landscape of the vineyards. During the guided visit, and before returning to Porto, you will also enjoy the unforgettable experience of tasting different wines.

A relaxing tour - I don't tend to book bus tours when I visit a new town or city, I'm more of an independent traveler, wishing to figure out my own itinerary as I go along. Given I was visiting Porto with my wife for a long weekend I decided to try the Douro Valley tour as it was so highly rated and seemed to offer quite a varied itinerary. Basically it's a combination of comfortable (air-conditioned) bus visit to a lovely historic town, lunch at a picturesque location, wine tasting at a local winery, river cruise and bus trip back via breathtaking scenery of the wine producing Douro region. It's a great package and very keenly priced as compared to other tours in the region. Our guide Juliana was informative and entertaining and our driver navigated the steep and winding roads in a controlled manner, particularly helpful with a belly full of food and local wine. I'd highly recommend this tour and rate it a five out of five

Incredible - Had an experience that I won't forget. Our guide Xavier was brilliant and attentive! He carefully has planned out the trip to ensure we all had a great time. Slowly built up the day after an early start to having us all singing kareoke in the afternoon! The music choice was iconic. Josí was a fantastic driver and always felt safe in his capable hands. He even made a little detour for a lovely picture I would highly recommend this experience, the valley is incredibly beautiful and the people we met made the tour so much more special (the drinks definitely helped :))

Very beautiful tour - I went on this tour solo and enjoyed it for the most part. About a hour into the tour we made a stop in Amarante to learn some history and were given only 20 minutes for free time. I used this time to find a restroom and when I returned to the meeting point just 2 minutes late, I found that the tour had already left. Thankfully one of the other guests on the tour noticed I was not on the van so they turned around and came back but I have to say that I have never been on a tour that did not take attendance. I was told they did a head count but clearly they miscounted and as a solo traveler that is a bit concerning. For the future I would suggest taking attendance by name to avoid this happening again. The van is comfortable but the air conditioning was not very strong and it was the middle of July with over 100F so the ride was quite warm. It does get very hot in the Douro Valley so keep that in mind if you’re going during summer. Also, the drive up and down the mountain is very winding and the driver was going pretty quickly so I started to feel a bit nauseous at one point. If you’re prone to motion sickness id probably keep Dramamine on hand. For lunch I got the vegetarian option which was a pasta and it was ok. The views are incredible and the boat ride was beautiful, however, there was no commentary at all for the whole ride, our guide wasn’t even on the boat. It would have been nice to hear more history about the river and the area etc. The winery was nice, but we did not really take a tour since it was so hot, again something to keep in mind if you go during summer. The tastings were very good, we tried a white and 2 reds and I enjoyed all of them. Overall, it wasn’t a bad tour but there is definitely room for improvement.

Beautiful region, the worst lunch - The tour guide Jose f and driver Maykel were excellent! And the Duoro Valley is a beautiful and unique experience. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the lunch was TERRIBLE. It was tasteless, served in a dreary restaurant by grumpy staff. It is honestly one of the worst meals I've had!
