Douro Marina is located in the parish of Afurada, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia. It consists of a marina with capacity for around 300 berths for small boats, based on a new concept of marina, combining sport, leisure, tourism and nature, with a range of services and activities, not only for travellers in transit, but also for the inhabitants of the surrounding area and visitors in general, who come to enjoy a beautiful, modern facility on the River Douro, just as it is about to reach its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean.
• Praca da Batalha - Since 1866, the square has been dominated by the monument to King Pedro V, designed by Teixeira Lopes. The square is also home to the São João National Theatre and the Cine-Teatro Batalha.
• Mercado do Bolhao - The Bolhão Market is a jewel of Porto: the building, one of the most emblematic in the city, is a municipal heritage site and a monument of public interest and preserves the memories and stories of the great fresh market, which pulses in the heart of the city, the people of Porto and those who visit it. Its character is unique and valuable and its identity and history have been intertwined with the identity and history of the city of Porto for over a hundred years.
• Avenida Dos Aliados - Aliados Avenue is the main avenue and the center of the city of Porto. Discover what makes this avenue so emblematic.
• Igreja dos Carmelitas - Carmelitas Church is a place that tells a curious story about Porto - it started to be built in the 17th century.
• Igreja do Carmo - This church was built on land next to the Carmelite Church on the west side, which was given to the Order in 1752. As it wasn’t allowed to build two churches together at the time, the so-called Hidden House was built between them, which you’ll find out more about on our tour.
• Hospital de Santo Antonio - A general, central and university hospital, it is responsible for teaching the Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine of the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) of the University of Porto. Despite being housed in a building of great historical and architectural value, it is a modern and well-equipped hospital in the country, and a benchmark for quality in healthcare provision.
• Torre dos Clerigos - The Tower of Clérigos is a remarkable architectural ensemble located in the city of Porto, and is considered the postcard of that city.
• Miradouro da Vitoria - The Miradouro da Vitória is located right in the heart of the old Jewish quarter. The history of this Jewish neighbourhood tells us that in the 14th century, King João I demarcated an area where all the Jews had to live, with high walls and access gates - it was like a city within the city of Porto. This period lasted around 100 years, until the arrival of the Inquisition.
• Passeio das Virtudes - The Passeio das Virtudes garden is the perfect place to end the day with a fabulous sunset over the River Douro. Lying on the grass or enjoying a beer on the terrace is the ideal spot for those who like to relax at the end of the day. The boulevard offers an excellent view over the river, all the way to the bar at the mouth of the Douro.
• Jardins do Palacio de Cristal - The Palácio de Cristal Gardens are a pleasant green space located in the parish of Massarelos, in the city of Porto, Portugal, from where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Douro River and the sea.
• Palacio da Bolsa - The Palácio da Bolsa, or Palácio da Associação Comercial do Porto, a neoclassical building, began construction on 6 October 1842, the solemn date of the laying of the first stone, given the closure of the Casa da Bolsa do Comércio, which forced Portuguese traders to discuss their business in the open air.
• Jardim do Infante Dom Henrique - This square, in the heart of Porto’s historic centre, pays homage to Prince Henry the Navigator - the most important figure at the beginning of the Portuguese discoveries - who, according to tradition, was born nearby, in the so-called Casa do Infante, in 1394.
