Memorable Porto Tour - Our group of friends had a memorable time on the Oporto Food Tour. Our guide Marlene was really captivating and took us on a tour of many of the must try foods in Oporto. I'll let the exact places remain a surprise, but we went to very nice local shops and restaurants where locals eat and are popular for their meals. We also made a quick tour of Mercado Bolhau and several famous landmarks and viewpoints. There is some walking involved in the tour, but nothing too intense. The tour exceeded our expectations in every way. Come hungry and ask for Marlene. We highly recommend this tour.

Opportunity to try local foods! - We loved trying different foods and our tour guide was very personable!! Different canned fish, bifanas, gilled chicken with piri piri sauce. Different wines and beer. There was more to try, but we didn’t wanna be late to get back on the ship.

Wonderful guide, amazing food - Today we went on a food tour throughout Porto with the lovely Marlene. We have a few things we do not eat and she adjusted easily. We had the most wonderful and tasty afternoon. I've never tried sardines, and ended up loving them. There wasn't anything that was not delicious, and she added in a lot of the history of Porto on our tour. It was perfect.

Gorgeous Landscape Views of Douro - The Duoro river trip was great. Our tour guide Peidro was informative in telling stories about Duoro. The wineries were interesting and tasty. Loved the lunch stop as well.

Walking It Off In Porto - Maria was an excellent guide, making this a great way to get to know Porto and learn about its rich history. As much as I enjoyed the food and drink aspect, I really enjoyed walking around Porto and taking in the sights. Signing up for city tours such as these can often be hit or miss; groups can be large making one-on-one time with guides to ask questions difficult. Luckily, we were the only two in the group, making it a private tour! We learned the origin of the famed Francesinha; schooled on bacalhau; introduced to chouriço, which is finished at your table in custom-made clay pots; ate like locals at Pedro dos Frangos; and of course, indulged in chocolate eclairs for dessert! At the end of the day, we ate, we imbibed and were able to get in some exercise!

Extraordinary food your - We had a preconceived idea of what a food tour would be like though we had never taken one. It was recommended that we do so by friends. We thought we would stop at a food market and sample a few things, and after a couple of hours we would be done. Maria met us at the arranged spot. She was prompt and friendly and introduced herself, then we began our adventure! Five hours later we had eaten Francesinho in an elegant restaurant for lunch, sardines and cod at another spot for snacks, downed a wonderful chicken dish of Peri, Peri chicken with a third proprietor, learned about the cooking of traditional Portuguese sausage, then finished with coffee and sweets. A complementary glass of wine was provided at each site. Maria inquired about any allergies and was able to modify dishes to satisfy those needs. Five hours later we had learned so much about Portuguese food, culture, history and people, and had toured much of the city. She could provide answers to any questions we asked and offered so much knowledge and understanding of her country as well as ours. We had a phenomenal experience, and would recommend Maria and thecooltours.com to anyone and everyone who visits Porto!

A thorough and tasty tour of old Porto! - A delicious and informative tour of Porto! Our guide Maria was fantastic. We learned loads about the city and its history. Maria was very knowledgeable and happy to answer all of our questions. We loved experiencing the city from recent to medieval history.of The tour is on foot and mostly downhill. We had plenty of chances to sit down and cool off at the various stops. And plenty of libations alongside the food we experienced.

We had a very pleasant... - We had a very pleasant day walking through Porto and tasting local foods. The food choices were excellent and plentiful. Our guide was terrific at adapting to our preferences. This tour was more about tasting local foods and orienting yourself to the sites of Porto, rather than a culinary experience. (Although, the food choices were high quality!) Our guide was interesting and happy to share about local customs and lifestyle.

The food itself was good - Pros: there is quite a bit of walking, but the tour guide kept a comfortable pace, and we didn’t feel rushed at any of the places compared to other food tours we’ve attended. Cons: our guide didn’t typically facilitate the food tour, so you can tell it wasn’t much of what he was interested in. The tour itself was pretty dry and boring. Lots of silence and not too much conversation. The food we were eating was not described to us and there wasn’t much explanation of things about the city unless we asked. If we asked about things, he was conversational; otherwise we walked and ate in silence. This was probably my least favorite tour in the sense of ambiance, but the food was good. I’d recommend that the agency they work for have guides that stick to specific tours so that they can enjoy what they’re doing. The guide essentially makes or breaks the tour.
