- Porto - The city of Porto and the northern regions are where Portugal was established in the 12th century, marking the beginning of the Portuguese nation and its people.
Porto, a city recognized as a World Heritage site, serves as the starting point for exploring the region’s rich natural and cultural diversity. Renowned for its Port wine, which is exported globally, Porto also boasts a blend of historical and modern architecture, including ancient churches like the Cathedral and the Church of São Francisco, as well as contemporary structures such as Casa da Música and the Serralves Museum. Experience this remarkable city with our expert guide and comfortable transportation.
- Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) - The Porto Cathedral, along with the city’s initial fortifications, was established in the 12th century by its first bishop, D. Hugo. Also known as the Church of Santa Maria do Porto, de Nossa Senhora do Porto da Eterna Salvação, or Nossa Senhora da Vandoma, it highlights the significance of the Marian cult. Our guide will provide insights into Porto and Portugal’s history, explain the building’s architecture from the outside, and offer stunning views of the river and the wine cellars in Gaia.
- Sao Bento Railway Station - Constructed at the start of the 20th century on the site of the former Convent of S. Bento de Avé-Maria, the S. Bento Railway Station features a glass and iron design by architect Marques da Silva. The station’s vestibule is decorated with 20,000 tiles painted by Jorge Colaço, depicting the evolution of transportation and significant events in Portuguese history. Our guide will explain the historical narratives illustrated on these tiles.
- Porto - The Historic Centre of Porto, the city’s oldest district, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996. It includes the civil parishes of Sé, Vitória, São Nicolau, and Miragaia, along with the Porto Wine Lodges. Despite numerous changes over the centuries, this area retains its distinct urban character, setting it apart from other European cities. Join us for a walking tour through these historic streets, where you’ll encounter monuments of immense cultural significance, as if time has stood still since the Middle Ages.
- Torre dos Clerigos - A true baroque masterpiece by Nicolau Nasoni, this monument is a symbol of Porto.
The Church of Clérigos, a baroque gem from the mid-18th century, was designed by Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni, who left his mark on many monuments in Porto and northern Portugal. Nasoni was laid to rest here, in a small chapel at the top of the double bolster stairway.
- Vila Nova de Gaia - It’s time to explore the Port Wine Lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Port wine originates in the Douro Valley, but it matures and develops its distinctive flavor near the city that shares its name. The river has long been used to transport wine barrels to the quays of Vila Nova de Gaia, where the lodges are located, and where the wine ages before being distributed worldwide.
Enjoy a guided tour of a renowned Port Wine Lodge in Gaia, learning about the history and production process of this exceptional wine. To conclude the morning tour and whet your appetite for lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to sample various Port Wines.

Promenade Foz do Douro - To truly experience Porto and its history, visit Foz do Douro. Facing the Atlantic, you’ll be captivated by the area’s exceptional quality of life and romantic walks, where the sun and sea unite in a breathtaking display each evening.
These beaches proudly bear the blue flag eco-label, indicating high-quality, unpolluted seawater. Stroll beneath the “Pergola da Foz,” built in the 1930s. Legend has it that the Mayor of Porto’s wife was so charmed by the pergola on the “Promenade des Anglais” in Nice, France, that she insisted on having a similar one in Porto. Here, it’s known as “Praia dos Ingleses,” a nod to the longstanding relationship between the English and Portugal.
- Jardim da Rotunda da Boavista - Conclude the tour by exploring the modern part of the city. The Boavista area features the impressive Casa da Musica building, the city’s largest avenue, and the city park. Your guide will bid you farewell, returning you to the meeting point or your accommodation (if selected).
