• Castelo de Obidos - Óbidos Castle has Roman origins, likely built on a castro, and features an ancient Roman-style tower (torre do facho). This is one of Portugal’s most romantic spots, known for royal gifts and since 1210, when Afonso II gave the town and Castle to his wife, D. Urraca, as a wedding present. In 1282, D. Dinis and Queen Santa Isabel also spent their honeymoon here. The town of Óbidos, surrounding the Castle, is famous for ginjinha, a popular cherry liqueur. Whether with or without cherries, ginjinha served in a chocolate cup is a must-try.
