Marina do Covelo - This stunning marina, just a 20-minute drive from Porto’s city center (transfer included), marks the beginning of an awe-inspiring journey through the Douro Valley!
Barragem de Crestuma-Lever - Our adventure kicks off with a view of the majestic Crestuma Dam, one of the five dams on the Douro. Positioned just upstream, we receive a brief overview of its construction before continuing our journey.
Rio Inha - Named in the Middle Ages, the “Inha River” is a left-bank tributary of the Douro. Its tranquil waters and picturesque surroundings resemble a natural park. Here, we pause for an aperitif, and on sunny days, guests can swim or try stand-up paddleboarding to explore the banks.
Praia da Lomba - Praia da Lomba is a serene spot, renowned for its pristine waters, earning it the title of a golden beach! The lush vegetation gives it an island-like appearance. In summer, it’s a favorite among locals and remains a hidden gem, away from tourists.
Arda - At the confluence of the River Arda, the historic railway bridge, built in the last century for coal transport, is visible. This area is rich in natural beauty and biodiversity, making it ideal for fishing and birdwatching.
Entre-os-Rios - This charming Portuguese town is named for the confluence of the Douro and Tâmega rivers. The scenery is stunning, but the highlight is dining at a traditional restaurant, operating for over 85 years! The wood-fired stoves impart a unique, authentic flavor to the traditional dishes.
Ilha dos Amores - This enchanting island is steeped in legends and fairy tales, but its true allure lies in its unmatched beauty. Here, the Paiva River joins the Douro. Once home to a small castle, remnants of which still exist, it’s a perfect spot for a swim in the calm waters on a sunny day.
Barragem do Carrapatelo - Prepare for a day’s highlight. Opened in 1972, this dam is the largest on the Douro and among the largest in Europe. Standing 57 meters tall, you’ll ascend it, capturing the moment in photos and videos. At the summit, enjoy a selected wine or a refreshing champagne on board.
Porto Antigo - At the junction of the “Bestança” and “Douro” rivers, “Porto Antigo” emerges like a painting. It overlooks “Porto Manso,” an ancient village with the iconic “Ponte de Mosteirô.”
Caldas de Aregos - Our first day concludes in this quintessential Portuguese village, deeply connected to the Douro Valley’s culture. Known for its healing thermal waters, it boasts charming restaurants and wineries. Guests will enjoy a comfortable stay in a hotel or farmhouse rated 4 stars or higher.
Closer to the Renowned Douro Vineyards!
Douro River - Nearing our destination, the first farms appear, showcasing the iconic terraced vineyards that produce this exquisite wine. A World Heritage Site, this landscape deserves to be savored leisurely.
Ponte Rodoviaria da Regua - The Régua Railway Bridge is a renowned landmark in the Douro Valley. Built in 1932, it links Peso da Régua and Lamego. Nearby is the Douro’s third dam, the Bagaúste Dam. The surrounding vineyards and terraces make it the heart of the Douro wine region.
Cais da Régua - By 3pm, we reach our destination, which could also be the start of your next adventure! In this area, continue exploring northern Portugal and the Douro. We can arrange a visit to a wine farm with a tasting included. Though our journey ends, our eagerness to assist and guide your stay in Portugal remains. After disembarking, enjoy two hours of free exploration. If no further visits are planned, our private car transfer will comfortably return you to your Porto hotel. The drive takes less than two hours.
Quinta do Seixo - Situated on the Douro River’s south bank, between Régua and Pinhão, Quinta do Seixo spans 100 hectares and is a prominent, traditional wine producer in the Douro Wine Region. Offering a stunning view of the valley, it serves as Sandeman’s flagship in the Douro, featuring the iconic Sandeman Don, created by George Massiot Brown in 1928. Stroll through the estate’s historic vineyards or enjoy a glass of Port by the fireplace, taking in the breathtaking view of one of Portugal’s and the world’s most beautiful landscapes.
