Pico Ruivo climb with Adventure Kingdom and local guide - Superb experience, many thanks to Rubin, our extremely knowledgeable, friendly and multi lingual guide explaining safety, our route, the travel to and from our climb, island history; information regarding flora and fauna. Pick up from and return to our hotel was on time and perfect, a clean comfortable mini bus. We chose an option for a tuna salad for lunch, this was extremely tasty, an excellent portion size with water, juice, pastel de nata and chocolate.

A perfectly organized private tour in extraordinary circumstances, by a supremely professional mountain guide and an expert driv - I have organised this tour (Pico Areeiro to Pico Ruivo than down to Achada do Texeira) in advance from Switzerland, my contact was André who's informations were always up to date. The tour was rescheduled several times due to bad weather, I was always informed in a timely fashion. Just one day before it was finally to take place, a landslide caused the closure of the Areeiro to Ruivo path. I was promptly offered an alternative of Ach.do Teixeira to Pico Ruivo and back to which a I agreed. I was picked up next morning by Fabio, the mountain guide and Claudio, the driver. Both turned out to be great guys who went out of their way to accommodate my every wish, stopping often in the middle of the road to let me make the pictures. Fabio was a source of endless information about the Island, its history, people, geology, flora and fauna, he was simply fascinating to listen to! The hike up the mountain went without a hitch, Claudio, the driver accompanied us. Both of them adapted their pace to mine and were helpful in every possible way, especially on the way back when I was getting tired. We waited on the top for as long as wanted for the clouds to dissipate which unfortunately happened only to a small degree. In spite of that, it was a glorious day for me in the company of two very competent and friendly guys who I can recommend unreservedly.

Good Less Strenuous Option - Although this hike is much less strenuous than the famous Pico from Pico hike, I still found it harder than I anticipated. Our guide was good about stopping frequently, and checking in when I fell behind. I still found the walk to be a bit rushed, as I would have like another 15 min or so at the top in order to rest and catch my breath a bit more as well as eat my packed lunch. Definitely a good option though, for those who want to see the views but are not quite confident enough to do the other 6h hike.

Professional and experient guides - Everything was well organized, from the pick-up point, the stops and of course the walking tour itself. The mountain guide and the driver were very friendly and informative and the whole group was safe during the activities. The route itself is easy to moderate-it has a lot of stairs- but we had a lot of stops to see the view.

Cancelled with very short notice - Tour was cancelled with less than 24 hours notice due to it not meeting the minimum numbers. Whilst accepting this is always a possibility, the lack of notice meant it was not possible to rearrange with another company. They also said in the cancellation message that they would suggest an alternative but can’t as they are fully booked tomorrow! Have not given one star as they have processed the refund.
