- Basilica - Spanning 1,500 square meters, the Basilica was the most opulent building in the Forum, serving as a venue for business and the administration of justice.
- Forum - The Civil Forum was the heart of daily life in the city, central to all major public buildings for city administration, justice, business, trade activities like markets, and places of citizen worship.
- Tempio di Giove Capitolino - The Temple of Jupiter, located on the north side of the Forum with Mount Vesuvius as a backdrop, underwent significant renovation when the colony was founded in 80 BC. It became a true Capitolium with three cult statues of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, similar to those in Rome, placed on a high base to be visible to all in the Forum square.
- Macellum - The Macellum features a tuff quadriporticus with an elevated worship hall on the eastern side, aligned with the entrance. Niches in the side wall house copies of two marble statues, a female and a male warrior, along with a fragment of a larger statue, likely an emperor, indicating the area was dedicated to the imperial cult. To the left is a room for sacred board meetings, and to the right, a large room with a masonry counter, possibly for selling fish.
- Via dell’Abbondanza - Via dell’Abbondanza was the main street (decumanus maximus) of ancient Pompeii, running east/west from the Forum to Porta Sarno. It was bustling and noisy, lined with shops, workshops, cafes, snack-bars, and restaurants.
- Stabian Baths (Terme Stabiane) - Located behind the Temple of Jupiter, the Forum Baths date back to the founding of the veteran colony by General Silla in 80 BC. Separate entrances led to the women’s and men’s quarters. The men’s section included an apodyterium (dressing room), tepidarium (medium temperature baths), frigidarium (cold baths), and calidarium (hot baths). The baths were heavily damaged in the earthquake of 62 AD.
- Pompeii - The Lupanar of Pompeii is the most renowned brothel in the ruined Roman city, notable for its erotic wall paintings. ‘Lupanar’ is Latin for ‘brothel.’ The prostitutes, mostly Greek and Oriental slaves, were paid between two and eight Asses (a glass of wine cost one As) for their services.
- House of Menander (Casa del Menandro) - The House of Menander is a prime example of a Roman Villa owned by a high-ranking family, richly decorated with frescoes depicting scenes from the Trojan War. Many silver objects and tableware found here are now in the Archaeological Museum in Naples. The house is named after a portrait of Menander, an Athenian poet, in the portico. It belonged to Quintus Poppaeus Sabinus of the Poppei family, relatives of Empress Poppea Sabina, Nero’s second wife.
- Casa del Fauno - Built in the 2nd century BC, the House of the Faun was one of the largest and most impressive private residences in Pompeii, housing many great artworks. It is one of the most luxurious aristocratic houses from the Roman Republic, offering a better reflection of this period than most archaeological evidence found even in Rome.
- Pompeii Archaeological Park - The Large Theater of Pompeii, built by the Romans on a hillside, utilized the natural depression of the mountain to create a grand auditorium divided into five sectors. The stage hosted tragedies from Greco-Roman traditions.
