During the era of the Prussian empire, Potsdam served as a residential area for monarchs. The trip features historical landmarks like the Sanssouci Palace and Frederick the Great’s original summer residence, which some equate to the German Versailles.
You’ll also make stops at the New Palace, recognized as the last grand Baroque palace of Prussia, and the country house Cecilienhof, location of the historic 1945 summit meeting of the triumphant World War II factions.
You will get to explore the Dutch Quarter, also known as ‘Little Amsterdam’, originally built to lure Dutch laborers to aid in Potsdam’s development. An additional stop is at the Russian Colony Alexandrowka, a residence for Russian singers who were part of the Prussian court.
To conclude the tour, soak in the Old Market Square, the historical epicenter of Potsdam that has undergone substantial reconstruction after losing much of its architectural heritage in World War II.
