The journey starts at the doorstep of Palazzo De Fraja- Frangipane and immediately, without delving deeper, we’ll notice the Roman remnants of the initial street planning, the Decumanus of 194 BC. In the republican period, it served as the city’s primary route and underwent a full makeover in the imperial duration following the Marble Temple’s erection; the pathway will be obstructed at the end to accommodate the features related to the new monument.
The time period’s stores, the tabernae, are situated along the decumanus. Pillars that once held up a public arcade overlooking the crepidini (pavements), shielding walkers from sunshine and rainfall, remain between these outlets and the road.
In the whole Pozzuoli region, Rione Terra’s stronghold is the sole location that has been at the forefront of every historical progression, from the commencement of Greek and Roman colonization to the contemporary age.
