Highlights

Strahov Monastery - The Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians at Strahov, commonly known as Strahov Monastery, is the oldest Premonstratensian monastery in Bohemia, founded in 1143. It stands as one of the Czech Republic’s most significant architectural landmarks. Restored after 1990, the monastery also houses the Museum of National Literature, the renowned Strahov Library, and the Strahov Gallery.

Strahov Stadium - The Great Strahov Stadium, also known as Masaryk Stadium, is considered by some to be the largest stadium in the world. It originally had a capacity of 280,000, including 96,000 seats. Since March 6, 2003, it has been recognized as a national cultural monument.

Covering a total area of 63,000 m², equivalent to about nine football fields, the stadium was initially built for the gymnastics festivals of the Sokol Movement. In 1926, it featured only a sand exercise area, earthen banks, and wooden stands.

The stadium underwent several reconstructions and expansions, including the addition of the west stands, to accommodate national Spartakiades. At its peak, up to 33,000 gymnasts performed there.

Strahov Stadium has also hosted concerts by famous bands such as The Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, and Pink Floyd.

Park Ladronka - Ladronka is one of Prague’s most beloved homesteads, with an adjacent park designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and especially in-line skaters, who can enjoy the longest illuminated track in the city, stretching 4.2 km.

The park hosts various cultural events, including Ladronkafest, Central Europe’s largest festival, and Čarodějnice na Ladronce (The Witches in Ladronka).

Historically, the area featured a vineyard press, as vineyards surrounded the region per the wishes of Charles IV. In 1688, Italian Count Philipp Ferdinand de la Crone, whose name was simplified to Lacrone or Ladrone, purchased a large tract of land near the village of Motol from Baron Schwihowski, giving the homestead its name.

Brevnov Monastery - Located in the Prague district of Brevnov, Brevnov Monastery is the oldest monastery in the Czech Republic, founded in 993. The site, which includes the Saint Margaret Basilica and the Margaret Garden, is a protected national cultural monument. Visitors can explore the baroque Saint Margaret Basilica, an 11th-century Romanesque crypt, and a baroque prelature featuring the Terezian Hall. The monastery is also known for its long-standing beer brewing tradition, producing Benedikt beer. Since 2017, beer brewed under the supervision of the monastery’s brewery technologists has been available in South Korea under the brand Praha 993.

The monastery grounds include a large garden with Vojteska, an abbot’s summer house with a chapel above a natural spring, marking the monastery’s founding site. The upper garden area contains remnants of an 18th-century greenhouse.
