Modern history tour including Nazi War and Soviet Control during the period 1918 to 1989 - Whilst Prague has centuries of history and historic buildings, the modern history period from 1st World War 1918 to the 1989 breakup of the Soviet Block is equally fascinating. This short 90 min tour visited all significant monuments and places of importance during the 80 year period in which Czechoslovakia changed and became Czech Republic of today. Our guide was a local Czech citizen and was an excellent guide. He was of an age that he could recall Czechoslovakia under communist Soviet control and the events that lead to it becoming an independent capital democracy.

Great conversational walk with living history - PRAGUE IS OPEN! IF YOU CAN - GO NOW!!! Low crowds and the dollar goes a long way!

Martin was a great tour guide and shared a tremendous amount of information that I was unfamiliar with. Though I’ve a general understanding of the unfortunate agreement reached at the end of WWII that resulted in Czech’s being absorbed into the Soviet sphere; Martin’s information on WWII and the Communist era was far deeper than what I’ve read or learned previously.

Martin met us at our hotel and we set off from there.

The walk from near to the Palace across the river into the new city was all very walkable and manageable for us.

The scenery along the way is great to capture and Martin accommodated all of this including taking pictures for us.

Martin also shared some personal history under communist times which was interesting to talk about common childhood experiences (He and my wife both experienced Atomic drills in primary school) along with other stories of living “behind the iron curtain” but directly from a Czech perspective.

At the end of the tour - Martin gave us recommendations on eating (Local - great beer and local food) along with other “must see” things in the city.

We very much recommend the tour and want to thank Martin for the great experience.

Best thing I found to do in Berlin. - Right from the time I arrived in Prague, I had a bad feeling about the place. The chocolate box cuteness held zero appeal for me. This was not helped by a distinct lack of help from people whose job it is to help, and getting ripped off by taxi drivers who think tourists are made of money. But things got much worse when I got to the large squares in the Old Town area. Masses of people wandering around licking unhealthy icecreams or sitting in cafes drinking huge glasses of beer and engaged in that most unproductive of activities: 'watching the world go by'. Fortunately, I found the flyer for this tour. It gets out away from the crowds. Our guide Tony was a very pleasant and knowledgeable English guy who made little secret of his dislike of the tourist traps. Incidentally, I can't really imagine a Czech guide on this tour. Despite the fact that their livelihoods depend on tourism, they tend to be pretty unhelpful and surly towards visitors. The prevailing attitude seems to be 'Yeah whatever.. now give me your money'. The highlight was the time we spent at the church memorial where the assassins of Nazi leader Reinhardt Heydrich were finally discovered hiding in 1942. People unfamiliar with this story might not get much from it, but those who are will find it fascinating. For serious students of modern Czech political history, this is the tour you. If you just want to spend some time in Prague, it is not. Just sit in the Old Town Square eating and drinking and learn nothing at all.

Very informative - Being interested in history, the tour really appealed to me. On the walking tour we learned more about the invasion during WWII and the communist occupation of Prague after the war. Our guide was very well versed in this history.

communist history of Prague - unfortunately our guide was an American who had only been in the country two years, and could tell us what he had studied !! was expecting more options and views of residents who had been through the communist era.
