Fascinating and informative trip - Very interesting guided trip to the Jewish quarter of Prague. Our guide Martina was very knowledgable and informative as we knew very little about the Czech Republic Jewish history. Fascinating to see the synagogues, and the museums. We would recommend if trip if you’re visiting Prague.

Peter the Jewish guide - Our guide Peter was excellent, being Jewish himself and having such a long family history in Prague he brought the excursion to life. He talked with knowledge and passion and a good degree of humour, tailoring the information to the mix of individuals we had within our tour group.

Prague was Cold, but Martina Was Warm and Friendly - Martina was a great guide, full of knowledge and anecdotes, and she wanted us to understand the importance of the information. I especially liked that we had an all-inclusive ticket for the sites and didn’t have to waste time while our group of ten bought tickets each place.

Very good guide, explains... - Very good guide, explains the story of the town extremely well and connected to personal stories. We where shown many Jewish heritage locations throughout the old Jewish district hitting fun detailed stories about each on the way.

Informative and reflective - Our bus dropped us off near the river and we trekked up streets to the Old-New Synagogue, the oldest functioning synagogue in Europe, went inside and down some steps. Our guide gave a brief explanation then we walked out and along some more streets to the Pinkas Synagogue with 80,000 names written on the walls. They all belong to Czech Jews who never returned from the concentration camps after WWII. On exiting, we walked up some steps to the Old Jewish Cemetery, one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Exiting by the gate, we walked to the Jerusalem Synagogue and entered its large interior which has a high circular rosette window with the Star of David. As you exit there is a gift shop. Beside this synagogue is a small park with a bronze statue of novelist Franz Kafka. The monument depicts him sitting on the shoulders of a headless figure, in reference to the author's 1912 story “Depiction of a Struggle” (wherein the narrator leaps onto his acquaintance's back and rides him like a horse). People stop to have their photo taken holding the statue’s dangling feet which are rubbed shiny as opposed to the dark metallic figure. From here our tour group walked back towards the river and took our bus to the hotel through Prague's congested early evening traffic.

Not for everyone - I was really interested in learning about the Jewish Quarter, but it seemed daunting with all the different admissions and wasn’t sure I would get as much without a tour guide and so went with this one which included the admission tickets. To be fair, much of the reason I wouldn’t do this tour again has nothing to do with the tour, but that we did not enjoy the incredible crowds at each location. It was the most crowded, “touristy” feeling thing we have done in Prague (and this is our third trip). It was very difficult to hear our tour guide because of the crowds and because of the layout which would not allow everyone close enough to hear her. It was also difficult to get close enough to read the exhibits. If you are really interested in learning about the Jewish Quarter I would recommend one with audio supplements.

Cut short - Our guide was very quiet which I appreciate in the synagogues but headsets are cheap and should be used. She was informative. We got to the Spanish synagogue and the line was an hour long. She told us to come back in a few hours so the line would be shorter by ourselves and the line was still long. Paid 60 dollars without seeing the Spanish synagogue. Worth seeing the Jewish sights and history, just not this tour.
