Highlights
  • National Technical Museum - Behind the monument of Saint Wenceslas stands the National Museum, dating back to the mid-19th century. Inside, you’ll find a plethora of historical artifacts, including dinosaur bones, remnants of Celtic and Slavic tribes that once inhabited the Czech territory, folk costumes, and more.
  • Church of St. James - The facade of St. James Church is quite simple, but the interior is absolutely grandiose! It’s considered the most beautiful church in Old Town.
  • Church of Our Lady before Tyn - You’ve arrived at one of the top highlights in Old Town - Tyn Church. It stands out like a stone giant among the small, colorful houses.
  • Kinsky Palace - This charming palace with a pink facade, known as Kinsky Palace, hails from the Baroque era, a period considered the most beautiful in Central Europe. During this time, people began adorning their homes, facades, and interiors with gold, stucco, sculptures, and bas-reliefs. Nobles also decorated their clothing; ladies wore crinolines, corsets, and wide skirts, styled their hair high, wore wigs, and embellished their outfits with flowers.
  • Old Town Square Novy Jicin - Once the main square in Old Town, this area served as a market where merchants sold their goods and townspeople came to buy, socialize, and share news. It was also a place for executions, which families, including small children, would watch as a form of entertainment.
  • Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock - To the left of the clock, three adjacent buildings form the new town hall of the old city. Now a museum, it features the interiors of the town hall and the dungeon of the Old Town. It’s a fascinating museum that I highly recommend visiting. You’ll see underground houses, shops, wells, and even a prison.
  • Staromestske namesti - The next stop on your trip is a small square known as “Small Square.” It was a market many years ago. In the center stands a golden lattice from the 16th century over a former well. A water pump was later built here, which is now non-functional. It’s said that criminals were once seated here, and townspeople would throw raw eggs and tomatoes at them for fun.
  • St. Giles Church - In the 17th century, this church was donated to the Dominicans, who continue to hold worship services here to this day. Organ concerts are also held here for tourists.
  • Charles Bridge - The bridge before you is the oldest one, but not the first. Before Charles Bridge, there was another stone bridge called Judith’s Bridge from the 12th century. All that remains of it is a small bridge tower on the Lesser Town side.
  • Lesser Town - Ahead, you see two towers belonging to Charles Bridge. On the left is a small tower from the previous bridge, dating back to the 12th century. The right tower, which is taller, belongs to Charles Bridge and was completed in the 15th century.
