Great half day out - We had a great time with Ailton hiking the Calabaceira Valley - absolutely amazing! He is lovely and gave us lots of information and history on the way about the plants and wildlife, the region and Cape Verde in general. He patiently answered our many questions. The 400-year old baobab tree is incredible. Cidade Velha and the fort are interesting places to explore - we spent less time there at the end. Nilton was friendly and drove us around. The hike and tour starts early but finishes around midday/lunchtime, leaving you with the rest of the day to do other things. Alex was kind enough to arrange it for us last minute. Would definitely recommend this tour company!

Awesome Trek - it was another fun and interesting day in the company of Christianne and Ailton. Both explained about the plants and orchids of the island while walking down to the baobab tree which is over 500 years old. We ended our journey with a surprise cake from our amazing guides for the birthday of one of us. What a thoughtful touch. I recommend Bu Country Tours for anyone big or small visiting Cabo Verde.

Exceptional experience - Our guide Ailton was exceptional. He had so much knowledge of the area and nature we saw on our hike. This excursion was our favourite part of our entire holiday. I cannot recommend Ailton highly enough!

Nice hike, but not «easy» - Nice walk through the greenery with our friendly and knowledgeable guide Ricardo, with a look at the Old City at the end. A different view of an otherwise quite dry island, and lots of information about local agriculture and history. Do note that the hike is not «easy», the path is rather rough especially when descending into the valley. A minimum of fitness and good shoes required. Smooth organization at short notice too.

The perfect combination of nature, culture, and history - Hiking through the Calabeceira Valley was definitely the highlight of my trip to Cape Verde. It was the perfect combination of nature, culture, and history. I am also very grateful for my guide Maria, who made this experience especially memorable by sharing her knowledge on plants, birds, history and more. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Santiago Island or Cape Verde in general! Thanks Bu Country Tours for making this experience possible

Best of everything tour on Santiago, Cape Verde - We had an absolutely fantastic day with Maria! The tour had a little bit of everything, wildlife, local culture, nature, and intriguing history. Maria is a very special tour guide, eager to share her Cape Verde with visitors. She has an extensive knowledge of her country, including the local plants and their uses. We learned all about the early Portuguese colonization and horrific slave history, tasted the home made rum (grogu), and even watched vervet monkeys respond to her calls! The hike was very interesting and well paced, not strenuous, with lovely views. The old town is beautiful and very interesting. Best of all, Maria shared stories about her childhood which really made island living come alive. I just can’t recommend this tour enough! A must do for every visitor to Cape Verde!
