4-Hour Small Group Tour to Ephesus, The House of Virgin Mary, and the Temple of Artemis (Max. 10 guests)

Ege Ports - Your tour guide will greet you at the Kusadasi Cruise Terminal with a sign displaying your name. After introductions, you’ll be driven to The House of Virgin Mary as the first stop.

Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House) - The first stop is the House of Virgin Mary. According to the Bible, Jesus entrusted his mother to his beloved disciple, St. John the Evangelist. After Jesus’ crucifixion, St. John and Mary fled Jerusalem due to the persecution of early Christians and came to Ephesus, where Mary spent her final years.

Ancient City of Ephesus - Next, you’ll visit the famous ancient city of Ephesus, walking through history along marble streets lined with remarkable public buildings. Highlights include The State Agora, Odeon, Memnius Monument, the Temple of Domitian, Polio Fountain, Curetes Street, The Trajan Fountain, The Baths of Scholastica, Hadrian Temple, Latrina, Celcus Library, the Gate of Mihridates and Mazues, Commercial Agora, and The Grand Theater. The Grand Theater, built in the 3rd century B.C., was later expanded by the Romans in the 1st century A.D. to accommodate 24,000 spectators.

The Temple of Artemis - The tour concludes with a visit to the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Dedicated to the Greek fertility goddess Artemis, the temple was built in the 3rd century B.C. Its enormous size and status as the first temple made of marble led the Greek poet Antipater to list it as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Kusadasi Gazi Begendi Park - You’ll drive back to the Kusadasi town center through Gazibegendi Park.

Ege Ports - Arrival at the town center where the Kusadasi cruise port is located.

Hippodrome - The walking tour begins at Hippodrome Square, the former center of sports and political activities in Constantinople.

Blue Mosque - The next stop is the Blue Mosque, one of Istanbul’s largest mosques, built in the 17th century. It is renowned for its blue tiles and six minarets, and is a principal feature of Istanbul’s skyline.

Topkapi Palace - A short walk takes you to Topkapi Palace, which served as the residence of the Ottoman sultans and the administrative and educational center of the state. Constructed between 1460 and 1478 by Sultan Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople, the palace includes a weapons section.

Update for St. Sophia interior visit: Live guiding is not allowed in St. Sophia after January 15, 2024. Guests must have their smartphones and headphones during their visit. If guests do not have headphones, they can purchase them at the entrance for $3.50 USD. The system is similar to an audio guide. With more than 58 covered streets and over 1,200 shops, it attracts between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. Opened in 1461, it is famous for its jewelry, pottery, spices, and carpet shops.

Curio Travel - Ephesus/Kusadasi & Istanbul - Used Curio Travel to arrange two private day tours during a Princess Cruise. Stop 1: Ephesus - had an amazing tour of Ephesus site and Mary's house and the local museum. It was all lovely! Tour guide was knowledgeable and driver was always on the ball. We split the tour with another couple from our ship and we each were able to pay separately which was helpful. We paid cash, USD (also helpful!) Step 2: Istanbul - private tour with a lovely guide where we used public transportation. So glad we decided to do a tour on public transport...Istanbul traffic is legendary and all the buses from our Ship's excursions were all late and caught in a traffic jam lol. We were right on time and stepped off the tram with no problems! We had lunch at a lovely spot and asked (in advance) for the tour guide to arrange shopping for us at the Spice Market. We had so much fun! Normally, I'm not a huge shopper on vacation...but the store they brought us to was fantastic. It was obviously built for tourists, which made me wonder at first...but the prices were good and they packed everything in shrink wrap. This was SOOO helpful as we got caught in a downpour in England and watched our luggage (and spices) get soaked. BUT...everything was fine because of how well they were packed. The sales was no pressure and we bought way more than we anticipated because it was so fun. We went in June and it's November and the spices we bought are still fragrant and i use them a lot in my cooking. Excellent quality! Our tour guide in Istanbul was absolutely delightful and we loved every moment! When people ask what our favorite part of our two week trip in Europe, we always say TURKEY! (Or Turkiye!) The cities were clean and welcoming and the guides were great. Thanks Curio Travel!

Exceptional Istanbul & Kusadasi by Curio Travel - Orkun Alev in Istanbul and Penny in Kusadasi were both exceptional tour guides making these two ports the stars out of the entire 14 days on the Princess cruise. Book directly with Curio, and know you are in phenomenal hands through these majestic stops in Turkey. Very small groups allowed for agility to navigate Ephesus, and also the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Grand Bizarre, and an excellent local lunch. Will return and use Curio Travel, thanks for the incredible experience and memories.
