Did you realize?

The word ‘Fagaras’ is believed to be derived from ‘fagar’, an ancient term symbolizing a massive, aged beech forest.

In bygone eras, the lower region of Fagaras Mountains was enveloped in Oak woodland. All that’s left today is ‘Dumbrava Vadului’ where, amidst the oak trees, we find daffodils (Narcissus stellaris), colloquially referred to as coprine.

The Fagaras Mountains host ‘Mioarelor’ glacial lake (2282 m), the loftiest glacial lake in the entire Carpathian mountain belt.

The Fagaras Mountains boast of 8 out of the 14 Carpathian mountain peaks that rise to an elevation of 2500 m: Moldoveanu (2544 m), Negoiu (2535 m), Coltul Vistei Mari (2527 m), Lespezi (2522 m), Cornu Caltunului (2510 m), Vanatoarea lui Buteanu (2507 m), Hartopu (2506 m), and Dara (2500 m). Moreover, there are more than 42 peaks that lie at elevations between 2400 and 2500 m.

An exciting and demanding 6-day camping expedition through the Fagaras mountains - This was a physically demanding but very rewarding trip with Bogdan, an experienced and extremely knowledgeable Mountain Guide who inspired confidence, even on the tricky exposed sections where use of chains/cabling are required. The scenery was stunning throughout with some amazing places to camp. I would thoroughly recommend this multi-day expedition but only for those who are fit and only if you’re prepared for rapid changes in weather!

Marvellous hike in Fagaras mountains - It was a great tour with gorgeus views and serious hiking in the beautiful Fagaras mountains. Good and safe transport until the foot of the mountain and back to city, through mountain roads (including the Balea lake road) and picturesque villages. Very good choice of the hiking path, good tempo of the group. And the very beautiful views of the wild mountains, lakes and patches of snow with lavishing flora and fauna. Except for the hike itself that deserves 5-stars I appreciate the fact that there was enough time to take photos and to rest in these gorgeous places. Looking forward to hike again in the Carpathians.

Incredible experience - I really enjoyed this tour. Driving on the Transfagarasan Road was an incredible and unique experience. The rugged beauty of the Fagaras mountains is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The views from the peaks and along the ridges are incredible. The hike up was equally amazing - I really enjoyed the bits of climbing we did and navigating the tricky terrain. Mihai was an excellent guide - he is like a walking encyclopaedia of the local area - and is very passionate about sharing his knowledge. I would definitely recommend doing this tour! It was unreal.

An excellent hike ! - We had a wonderful 4 hours hike in the Valea Sambetei, it snowed the day before so we had a beautiful snowy landscape. Valentin was an excellent guide, very nice and professionnal. He picked us at our place, we made the hike and as we were quick for the hike and finished early he showed us a monastery nearby. We recommande this activity.
