As we head to our first destination, we’ll drive through Basseterre, the capital of Saint Kitts. Along the way, you’ll see some of the city’s historic landmarks, including Berkeley Memorial (often called the circus), Independence Square (formerly Pal Mal Square), the Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. George’s Anglican Church, the National Museum, Her Majesty’s Prison and The Government House.
2. Bloody Point
Capture the perspective from Bloody Point, where in the 1600s European colonists perpetrated a massacre of 2,000 Kalinago people.
3. Old Road Town
Old Road Town in St. Kitts, one of the island’s earliest settlements, exudes historical charm with its colonial architecture and narrow streets. Visitors can explore sites like the Old Road Bay Methodist Church from the 18th century or enjoy leisurely walks along the scenic coastline, experiencing the peaceful Caribbean atmosphere. Rich in heritage and surrounded by serene landscapes, Old Road Town offers a captivating blend of history and natural beauty for travelers to St. Kitts.
4. Wingfield Estate Sugar Plantation Ruins
Romney Manor in St. Kitts, a historic estate dating back to the 17th century, is famous for its lush gardens and rich cultural heritage. Once owned by Sam Jefferson II, ancestor of President Thomas Jefferson, it now welcomes visitors to explore its well-maintained gardens featuring exotic plants and a centuries-old Saman tree. The estate also hosts Caribelle Batik, where traditional Caribbean batik fabrics are crafted, showcasing the island’s artistic traditions. Romney Manor provides a captivating blend of history, natural beauty, and craftsmanship, offering a window into St. Kitts’ heritage.
5. Caribelle Batik at Romney Manor
Caribelle Batik is a historic store offering handmade tie-dye fabrics and island souvenirs, situated at Romney Manor in the heart of the stunning rainforest. As we depart, we’ll also pass by the historic St. Thomas Anglican Church.
6. Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society
Explore the military architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries, designed to offer safe haven during frequent sea attacks. This site stands as the sole UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Eastern Caribbean.
7. Dieppe Bay
OPTIONAL: If your group is interested in experiencing authentic Kittitian cuisine, this is your chance to visit one of the island’s most renowned restaurants. Simply inform us, and we’ll arrange it for you. Food costs are not included.
8. Blackrocks
Black Rock Overlook in St. Kitts offers stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and rugged coastline, drawing visitors seeking natural beauty and tranquility. Located on the island’s western side, it’s ideal for sunset watching or peaceful moments in a historically significant spot where the Carib people resisted European invaders. Today, it’s a serene destination for sightseeing and contemplation in St. Kitts.
9. Timothy Hill Overlook
Timothy Hill offers a panoramic view of Saint George’s Parish, showcasing a 360-degree postcard vista that includes the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Frigate Bays, Nevis (known as the Sister Island), and the Peninsula Hills.
10. Frigate Bay
OPTIONAL: Enjoy some leisure time at the stunning Frigate Bay Beach on the Caribbean Sea in St. Kitts (there is a $20 fee collected upon drop-off). Your guide will return you to the starting point regardless of whether you choose this option. This is an opportunity to experience the island’s beautiful beach scenery.
