Highlights

BUCHAREST – BRAN - BRASOV

Bucharest - In the morning, meet our guide at your hotel in Bucharest or at the airport (for flights arriving by 11:00 AM). Note: Upon request, we can include additional nights and travel services in Bucharest.

Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) - Continue your Transylvania tour with a visit to the renowned Bran Castle, also known as Dracula’s Castle. The castle gained fame from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula” and was later adapted into a film by Francis Ford Coppola. The earliest records of Bran Castle date back to 1377.

Brasov - After visiting Bran Castle, you can spend some time shopping for souvenirs before heading to Brasov. End the day with a tour of Brasov’s medieval center, featuring sites such as Council Square, Black Church, White and Black Towers, Weaver’s Bastion, Ecaterina’s Gate, St. Nicholas Church, and The Rope Street. Brasov dates back to the 13th century and was a significant trade center and one of the most fortified towns. Many medieval buildings are still visible on our tour. We’ll conclude the day by returning to Brasov, either via the fast road to spend more time in the city or the scenic countryside road through picturesque mountain villages. Overnight in Brasov.

BRASOV - PREJMER – VISCRI – RUPEA - SIGHISOARA - BRASOV

Peasant Fortified Church at Prejmer - Depart from Brasov to explore the Saxon heritage of the area. The first stop is Prejmer Fortified Church (UNESCO), one of the best-preserved examples in Eastern Europe. Dating back to the 13th century, it showcases a blend of religious and defensive structures. Built to shelter local communities, these fortified churches are characteristic of southern Transylvania and were part of the regional defensive system. Almost every village in the area had some form of fortification, with the most significant ones included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Viscri Fortified Church - Next, we’ll drive to Viscri, one of the most charming Transylvanian villages. The village maintains the authentic architecture of the houses, traditional way of life, and crafts. It is a prime example of the Saxon/German heritage of Transylvania. Enjoy a walk through the village and visit the Viscri Fortified Church.

Cetatea Rupea - We’ll continue to Rupea Fortress, an impressive citadel with three concentric fortified walls and three interior precincts.

Centrul Istoric Sighisoara - In the afternoon, we’ll arrive in Sighisoara, the best-preserved medieval town in Transylvania. Main sights include the Clock Tower and History Museum, the birthplace of Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), Covered Stairs, Church on the Hill, towers, and fortifications. Enjoy a stroll along the narrow, river-stone-paved streets. Sighisoara is a must-see for any traveler touring Romania.

BRASOV - SIBIU – SIBIEL – BRASOV

Centrul Istoric - In the morning, we’ll drive to Sibiu, the largest medieval town in Transylvania and a popular tourist destination. Highlights include Big Square, Little Square, Orthodox and Lutheran-Evangelical Cathedrals, Liars Bridge, and the medieval wall. Sibiu is a vibrant city with a charming old town, and a walk will reveal parts of its local history and culture. It is considered one of the most romantic places in Europe to live and visit.

Sibiel - At lunchtime, we’ll drive to the villages surrounding Sibiu, which have a rich history and tradition. The best way to experience village life is by taking a horse-drawn wagon trip. Enjoy the scenery and village architecture, followed by a homemade traditional lunch at a local family guesthouse. This is also an opportunity to see a typical Transylvanian household and learn how a peasant family lives. Return to Brasov. Overnight in Brasov, at the same hotel.

BRASOV – SINAIA – BUCHAREST

Peles Castle - Depart Brasov en route to Bucharest, stopping in Sinaia to visit Peles Castle, the former summer residence of Romanian kings. Peles Castle is considered one of the finest castles in Europe and one of the most modern buildings of its time.

Bucharest - Drop-off at the airport or a hotel in Bucharest around 2:00 PM. Optional panoramic tour of Bucharest, featuring highlights such as the Triumph Arch, Victoriei Square, Victory Avenue, Royal Palace, Athenaeum, Revolution Square, Parliament Palace, Union Square, and University Square.

Brasov Trip to Peles and Bran Castle Guide David Jalea - Our Guide, David Jalea was simply AMAZING; we were a group of 4 (2 couples) and we felt at ease with our guide David all the time. We learnt many interesting (and new) things about Vlad and about backgrounds. We strongly recommend the experience.

Transylvania Tour - We had an excellent trip guided by David Jalea. David was a brilliant all round host, courteous, knowledgeable, reliable and informative. I thought his degree was in history but not so. He is an excellent ambassador for his company and country. We are looking forward to being guided by him again.

24-hour Custom Trip - A friend and I had 24 hours in Romania before a conference, so David custom designed our quick tour to meet our every need and wish with door-to-door service. His response to our initial query was within minutes and we were able to design the tour within an hour or so. He had done the same for another friend which was how I came to get his information. I will keep passing on the recommendation as I connected with the country in a way I could not have with only flying in for the conference. Thank you, David. It was fantastic to learn from you and see your country for its beauty and history!

One of the best vacation trips we ever had. - Me and my husband had a three day private tour with David Jalea. The tour exceeded all our expectations. David has a deep knowledge and understanding of history of the region and knows how to present it in an engaging way. David was very attentive to our needs, flexible in our schedule and made our trip pleasurable. We had a chance to explore the beautiful historic city of Brasov, visited Peles Castle, Bran Castle the village of Viscri, and so much more. David introduced us to Romanian cuisine and some good restaurants. David has an excellent English and we had some very interesting discussions which helped us understand the country's past and present. In coming to Romania we had a mission trying to find my husband's family roots. David was instrumental in our success. Even before we arrived he found the house where the family lived and the grandfather's grave. He went with us to the municipality where we found my husband's birth records. We can not recommend David high enough. He is very attentive and communicates promptly. We will keep a fond memory of our trip.

Great tour of Transylvania - Had a fantastic 5 day 4 night tour of Transylvania with guide David! He showed us the “usual” Peles Castle, Bran Castle and so much more! The 13th century fortified church at Prejmer, the fortress of Rupei, the village of Viscri, home to a cottage owned by King Charles, having become king 2 days before our visit, the lovely walled city of Sighisoaro, the medieval city of Sibiel. David included a home farm visit in Sieben and a drive through alp like mountain villages. There was a fair amount of driving but the benefit was staying all nights in Brasov and having the old town restaurants to try each night. From picking us up at the airport and dropping us off in Bucharest, he was an excellent guide with perfect English! His tour was longer, more inclusive and less expensive than the “add on” Viking tour we could of signed up for before our Danube river cruise. So glad we chose David’s Visit Transylvania tours!

Good private tour for solo traveler - I booked a private tour with the company from Tuesday-Friday. Planning the trip was easy through email and I always got a very quick response back with good planning tips and ease to make an itinerary for the short trip. I was promptly picked up at the airport with excellent communication and brought to Transylvania. The three guides I had told me lots of historical information, they all were extremely knowledgeable and gave great tours of the sights we visited. We did everything on my list plus extras once I got there and saw more that I was interested in. I was on time to everything and didn't feel rushed. It was a great company to work with!
