- Mayapan Archaeological Zone - Spend your day learning about ancient Mayan culture at the Ruins of Mayapan. Afterward, an adventure deep into the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula.Upon your arrival at Mayapan, you will first notice the 5.65 miles (9.1 km) long wall surrounding the site, this is arguably the largest defense wall found anywhere in Mesoamerica. Evidence that Anthropologists have uncovered at the site suggests that Mayapan was once the capital of the Mayans during the Late Post-Classic period. Your knowledgeable guide will show you all of the most important buildings in the center of the site, from the largest pyramid the Temple of Kukulcan, and around the ceremonial center which oratories, colonnaded halls, temples, sanctuaries, shrines, platforms, and altars. An estimated population of around 12,000 once lived inside the walled city. After about 45 minutes you will have seen all the best sites and will return to your transportation to head off towards your next stop, Nah Yah cenote.

Great experience! - Great experience with the whole team. Had Bianca as our guide for the day and was a great tour outside of our cruise offerings with a lot of 1:1 conversion with there only being 7 people in our whole group.

Great destinations, but Progreso Bus back to the cruise ship was a nightmare. - The good: Antonio was kind and knowledgeable (even though he is Spanish speaking). We had a private tour, and the Mayapan Ruins and Nayah Cenote were just spectacular.
The bad: Jose was not at the cruise ship terminal when my family got off the ship. (We were there at 8:35, supposed to meet at 8:30). Antonio spoke Spanish only, so between google translate and his broken English we made it work. We also had to pay for our entrance fees to the Mayapan ruins (12$) and the Nayah Cenote (16$) which wasn’t a huge deal, but I would expect that for a family of 4 and spending $530 for this tour, I would expect the fees to be pre paid. Also the shuttle in Progreso was really overwhelmed by the tourists coming back from their excursions. We got to the bus terminal at 2:30 Pm, waited for 35 min to get on the bus to get to the cruise ship. We got to the cruise ship by 3:20. We were supposed to be on board at 3:30 pm. There were so many people still at the bus terminal at 3:30pm. They held the cruise ship for everyone, but I would have appreciated a carnival tour and be dropped off at the cruise terminal to avoid the bus hassle.

Wonderful Experience - Our tour guides were Arturo and Jose. They were very informative and helpful. The bus ride was long but not bad. The Mayan Ruins were beautiful and just unbelievable to walk through. My three boys and I loved climbing the ruins and walking all across the land and exploring it all. It was very hot but well worth it.
The Cenotes swim was incredible! Such beautiful surroundings and the swim in the freshwater was wonderful. My family and I had a great time and would definitely recommend it! Arturo and Jose were great guides!

Carnival Valor Excursion - This excursion was very good. Super Mario & Spicy were our tour guides and did a wonderful job. The Mayan ruins were awesome. I only wish we hard more time to spend there. The Cenote swim was AMAZING. They were beautiful. The lunch we had after that was really good. will definitely do this again the next time I stop at this port.

Jorge, our tour guide! - So I decided on this tour for myself and my 3 teens. It was AMAZING!!!! the ruins and all the history kept me and even my teens attentive. Our tour guide was the sweetest and made us feel comfortable and safe at all times. They made sure we always had water, and even took lots of our photos for us. I can't even begin to tell you about the cenote...driving though the little town to get to it was nice to see, and when we arrived, it was just as beautiful as I expected. My kids loved it!!!! We would definitely do this tour again!

Carnival excursion booked through ship - This excursion included a hour and 30 minute bus ride to the cenote/ lazy river , then over to the Mayapan Ruins and then to lunch at a historical Hacienda.
Our tour guides were Arturo and Jose ( Papa and uncle) These two men were knowledgeable and pleasant. They made the tour enjoyable. The bus was a little warm, it seems that the air conditioner just didn't cool it enough. But it was bearable. There is a restroom on the bus, for emergency only.
The cenote was amazing! Cool refreshing , beautiful water. Lots of history and Mayan significance. Don't be afraid, it is really deep water but they have good life vests for everyone. The rock steps leading in and out of the cenote ( pronounced see- note-tay)were challenging for the less mobile, people helped each other. The lazy river/ tubing was nothing really, just a connection between the oven air cenote and the cave cenote. I am claustrophobic but it didn't bother me at all. They offer masks, I sugges taking swim goggles for comfort and visibility.
Then back in the bus, 30 minute ride to Ruins. Very sunny and hot but so interesting. There was a tiny souvenir stand, they accepted $ or pesos.
Then to lunch, it was good. We had to putchase our own drinks $5 for pop, $7 alcohol drink.
Tips....wear your swim suit under your clothes or cover up.a towel is good. ( Gals, I had my suit on under capris and a blouse) I wish I had taken a bra and panties, so I could get out of my wet suit, after the cenote swim. There are restrooms, you have to change quickly.
Swim shoes or tennis shoes a must...flip flops not so good.
Take a hat, sunscreen....bring snacks and water. They gave us one bottle but it We were famished....also depending on your tour lunch might be first, second or last. Ours was last lunch and people were fading, due to heat and hunger! Don't forget to tip Papa, Uncle and Driver....theay appreciate it so!!

Worth the bus ride - I did this tour with Mucho Gusto. Our tour guides Michelle & Jasmine were fantastic and able to share a great deal of knowledge with us. The tortas for lunch were good but we could have probably eaten more after so much exercise. The lazy river and caves were stunning and the ruins very impressive.

Zero organization - Tour was 2 hours late as we waited for the rest of the tour party at the pier with the guide. The van took us to Progresso where just my travel friend and I departed the van and got into a car. The rest of the tour we waited 2 hours for did not even go with us on our tour! Our tour guide was very nice, polite and bent over backwards for us but alas…he barely spoke English so we did not get a background of the Mayan ruins. The ruins were fascinating but wish we had a guide that could answer our questions and provide information. Onto the cenote which I was looking forward to….when we got there, no one else was swimming but me and I do not swim alone so our guide helped me down the broken down, very dangerous steps into the Cenote and watched me swim. (No lifeguard, no life vests as other denotes). He was wonderful. The tour provided no snacks or food where others on this same tour did get something to eat. Likewise, we were shocked at the time after the swim, as the tour was supposed to be back at the ship at 2:00 and it was 3:00 and we were over an hour away which our tour guide was apparently never told of the time we needed to get back to the ship. The ship was to leave around 4 and all passengers were to be onboard by 3:00. We went into panic mode. Our guide called his boss ‘Pepe’ who seemed to be a real jerk. Since our guide did not have the proper papers to cross the bridge, Pepe told him to take us to the bus station to catch a bus back to the ship. The bus driver was off duty and no more buses were driving to the port that day. Time is ticking away and we have no means of quickly getting a ride to the boat. Pepe is qualified to cross the bridge but was very upset that he was forced to drive us. He took his time and arrived 20 minutes later. We got in his van and he drove about 30 mph the entire way to ship on 4 lane road with every car passing us. Our guide called him and asked if we were going to make it….he was that worried. Even tho’ Pepe was aware of the urgency, he just meandered along. We got there after 4:00 and the ship left late at 4:30. I would not recommend any tour that Pepe has anything to do with……after English lessons, our guide would be excellent. I don’t want to give his name …I don’t want him to get into trouble but you can throw Pepe into the cenote!

Horrible, Sketchy, Rip off - This was a total rip off. The tour guide didn’t even go into the ruins with us, no AC on the van, cost doesn’t include admission to the cenote or the ruins, they were late picking us up and the drive was so long that so we only had about 15 minutes at the ruins and 15 minutes in the cenote. We had to change vans halfway through bc one van was unregistered they said. It was very sketchy and we almost told them to just take us back to the port. Do not book this excursion through Viator.
