In 1734, Charles III of Bourbon, the then reigning king of Naples, chose to shift the royal domicile a few miles to the north of Naples. Luigi Vanvitelli, the assigned architect, crafted the design for the royal residence, which turned out to be the largest royal abode in the world, an exquisite masterpiece nestled in a garden resembling a violin. This place still stands as one of the most breathtaking spots in Italy, instantly transporting you to a timeless era enveloped by opulence and artwork. The palace stretches over 5 levels and proudly flaunts over 1200 chambers, each more magnificent than the last. Your senses will be overwhelmed by the astonishing beauty all around, from the grand staircase and the Palatine Chapel to the Court Theatre and the Throne Room. The gardens have preserved their original charm over the decades, with grand fountains and waterfalls interspersed with symmetric grasslands, and occasionally, charming hidden mini gardens springing up. The Royal Palace and its Park have been a part of the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997.
