Discovering Ourense: A Family Adventure

Our journey began in the heart of Ourense, at the charming Plaza Mayor. This square, with its unique sloping ground, immediately captured the kids’ imaginations. They giggled as they tried to balance on the uneven surface, turning it into an impromptu game. The square’s vibrant atmosphere, with locals chatting and children playing, set the perfect tone for our day of exploration.

We wandered through the historic center, where the Iglesia De Santa Maria Madre stood as a testament to the city’s rich history. The kids were fascinated by the stories of the original cathedral that once stood there. Our guide was wonderful, weaving tales of the past that kept even the youngest of my three engaged. As we strolled through Praza Correxidor, I couldn’t help but appreciate how the modern buildings still held whispers of the past, a perfect blend of old and new.

A Taste of Ourense

A Cathedral and a Market

The highlight of our tour was undoubtedly the Catedral de Ourense. Its grandeur was awe-inspiring, and the guide’s explanations brought the history to life. We concluded our tour at the Praza Abastos, a market that has been a cornerstone of Galician gastronomy since 1924. The kids enjoyed picking out fruits and learning about different ingredients, making it a fun and educational experience.
