A LAGOON TO DISCOVER - We chose the private boat tour at a cost of 100 euros from 18 to 20. Guide Giacomo Benelli was waiting for us at the wharf with his flat-bottomed boat that accompanied us to discover the lagoon of Marina Romea protected natural area. I specify that this is not the usual enthusiast who carries out the activity as a second job but Giacomo is a Pro Guide graduated in Natural Sciences with a master’s degree in management of protected areas as well as native and therefore a profound connoisseur of the lagoon, its evolution over time and its fauna. The activity took place in total safety with life jackets for all child occupants included.
The tour lasted two hours and in addition to the visit of the lagoon and flamingo sighting made us visit the island of spinaroni as well as explaining the fishing activity in the lagoon. The tour is very relaxing with wonderful sunset included. Hat and canteen are recommended. Towards the end of the excursion Giacomo also offered us a small aperitif on the boat based on prosecco, water, chips and taralli

Beautiful flamingoes in a natural setting. - This is a wonderful opportunity to see hundreds of flamingoes and other types of birds in the natural setting of a lagoon and wetlands. As we travelled slowly along in Giacomo’s small boat he explained the history of the creation of the lagoon and helped me identify birds. I thought flamingoes are pink but these were white with only hints of pink as they stood in groups in the shallow water. As we got near groups of flamingos they would take off and the pink and black under their wings is so beautiful to see. I was staying in the centre of Ravenna with no car so Giacomo arranged a ride for me there and back for an extra reasonable fee. The driver was also very nice pointing out what we saw on the 30 minute trip to the departure point.

Extraordinary birdwatching outing / Unvergessliche Birdwatching-Erfahrung - If you want to live an unforgettable birdwatching experience in the Ravenna region, then the boat tour offered by Giacomo in the Pialassa della Baiona is undoubtedly what you need! For 2 hours, you will be accompanied on the canals of the lagoon, between fresh water and salt water, by this very friendly, passionate and fascinating naturalist guide, who will generously share with you his in-depth knowledge of this particular environment and the birds that inhabit it. Their habitat, their behavior, their habits, their songs, their way of flying: all of this Giacomo knows it like the back of his hand and will make you benefit from it throughout the visit, taking you to the most suitable places to do superb observations. In addition to the essential flamingos, ducks (mallards, pochards, shelducks), gulls (herring gulls and mocking gulls), terns (common flamingos, dwarf gulls and whiskered gulls) and cormorants (great and pygmy), we have could also observe great egrets (white heron), little egrets, spoonbills, sacred ibises, white stilts, oystercatchers, cavaliers (c. gambette and c. guignette), silvery plovers, pied avocets, curlews, gray harriers, bee-eaters, orioles, a black swan and a wheatear... We enjoyed our tour so much that we returned 3 days later! We recommend without hesitation! Anne and Vito

An excellent adventure in nature - Giacomo came highly regarded and we were looking forward to our time on the water. We spent around 3 hours quietly moving around the Pillassa Baio by boat observing the wildlife up close.
Giacomo was a very interesting and knowledgeable guide and opened our eyes to many species of bird. His boat was very stable and comfortable. And he provided some excellent binoculars and other viewing equipment - all top notch Leica models.
An excellent tour.

Highlight of an Italian trip full of highlights. - My first day in Ravenna was spent on the water with Giacomo. He is a delightful and informative guide. I love his little boat and how the exotic birds ignored our presence. I was stunned when we came around a bend and saw the magnificent birds. The activities of humans along the waterways were fascinating. After seeing all the nets for catching eels, we were able to attend the Eel Festival. Just a great outing.

Fantastic bird watching trip - I went on this fantastic trip with my mum in her 70’s and my brother. Our day out with him in Marina Romeo was the highlight of our trip to Ravenna- it was such fun we spent the next day with Giacomo too on a guided walk
We saw sooo many birds- including flamingoes, many waders, egrets, spoonbills and May more. Landscape was amazing. Boat very comfortable and Giacomo so knowledgeable. Was such fun for avid bird watchers like my Mum and novices like me, alike. Thank you and hope to come back.

Fantastic boat tour - This was an absolutely fabulous tour. Giacomo is an expert guide- very knowledgeable and friendly. You will tour on and off the boat. We saw flamingos, white and black swans, grey puffers, coumarins, kingfishers, herons, and leaping fish. It is off the typical tourist path but well worth the trip. I would recommend to anyone wanting to experience another side of Ravenna or who is interested in nature. The sunset is unforgettable, as is the experience.
