Additional Information

Our birdwatching excursions are designed with an emphasis on ecology and a ‘leisurely’ approach, allowing for small group participation. The journey includes several pauses for wildlife observation. The optical gear provided to attendees enables them to experience nature’s moments from a substantial distance and capture captivating photographs. During the summertime, we often encounter large flocks of flamingos (sometimes in thousands), along with other stunning and intriguing species like shelducks, avocets, black-winged stilts, oystercatchers, and terns. This experience provides an opportunity to uncover the magnificent natural and landscape assets of Pialassa Baiona and to trace the region’s evolution from Roman times to the present. Extraordinary birdwatching outing / Unvergessliche Birdwatching-Erfahrung - If you want to live an unforgettable birdwatching experience in the Ravenna region, then the boat tour offered by Giacomo in the Pialassa della Baiona is undoubtedly what you need! For 2 hours, you will be accompanied on the canals of the lagoon, between fresh water and salt water, by this very friendly, passionate and fascinating naturalist guide, who will generously share with you his in-depth knowledge of this particular environment and the birds that inhabit it. Their habitat, their behavior, their habits, their songs, their way of flying: all of this Giacomo knows it like the back of his hand and will make you benefit from it throughout the visit, taking you to the most suitable places to do superb observations. In addition to the essential flamingos, ducks (mallards, pochards, shelducks), gulls (herring gulls and mocking gulls), terns (common flamingos, dwarf gulls and whiskered gulls) and cormorants (great and pygmy), we have could also observe great egrets (white heron), little egrets, spoonbills, sacred ibises, white stilts, oystercatchers, cavaliers (c. gambette and c. guignette), silvery plovers, pied avocets, curlews, gray harriers, bee-eaters, orioles, a black swan and a wheatear... An excellent adventure in nature - Giacomo came highly regarded and we were looking forward to our time on the water. We spent around 3 hours quietly moving around the Pillassa Baio by boat observing the wildlife up close. Giacomo was a very interesting and knowledgeable guide and opened our eyes to many species of bird. His boat was very stable and comfortable. And he provided some excellent binoculars and other viewing equipment - all top notch Leica models. An excellent tour.

Highlight of an Italian trip full of highlights. - My first day in Ravenna was spent on the water with Giacomo. He is a delightful and informative guide. I love his little boat and how the exotic birds ignored our presence. I was stunned when we came around a bend and saw the magnificent birds. The activities of humans along the waterways were fascinating. After seeing all the nets for catching eels, we were able to attend the Eel Festival. Just a great outing.

Landscape was amazing. Boat very comfortable and Giacomo so knowledgeable. Was such fun for avid bird watchers like my Mum and novices like me, alike. Thank you and hope to come back.

Fantastic boat tour - This was an absolutely fabulous tour. Giacomo is an expert guide- very knowledgeable and friendly. You will tour on and off the boat. We saw flamingos, white and black swans, grey puffers, coumarins, kingfishers, herons, and leaping fish. It is off the typical tourist path but well worth the trip. I would recommend to anyone wanting to experience another side of Ravenna or who is interested in nature. The sunset is unforgettable, as is the experience.

Fun trip through the lagoon - Guacamole was a great guide for our trip. He knew both the birds and the history of the lagoon. It was a really fun and informative trip, made even better by the snacks and beverages he provided. We had never expected to see flamingos in this area, but there were hundreds of them. Highly recommend this excursion.

Fantastic Tour! - This tour was all I had hoped for. Who could ask for more… colorful oyster catchers, flicks of flamingoes, a rare turtle sighting, shell ducks, and more. Giacomo is a fantastic guide, He’s friendly, very knowledgeable, and he speaks perfect English. (Yet he was kind enough to speak slowly in Italian to me since I’m just learning the language). Take the time to take this tour!

Must do in Marina Romea - Our boat trip was interesting and exciting for the whole family. Our two boys ages 5 and 8 loved it, my husband loved it and I, a professional biologist, loved it. Giacomo was super knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife but also the history, culture and industry of the area. We spoke in both Italian and English without any problems. It was the highlight of our vacation. Also, no mosquitoes and plenty of flamingoes!
