A Journey to the Heart of Nature

Our family’s recent adventure took us to the Province of Terni, where we embarked on a journey to explore the magnificent Marmore Falls. Known as the highest waterfall in Europe, the Cascata delle Marmore stands at an impressive 165 meters, cascading in three sections into the lush Nera Valley. As a museum curator with a passion for interactive learning, I was particularly excited to see how this natural wonder could captivate the imaginations of my children, much like the exhibits I design.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the sound of rushing water, a symphony of nature that set the tone for our exploration. The park’s botanical guides led us along the Ring of the Nymph and the Meeting of the Waters paths, weaving tales of the falls’ legendary origins. The story of the nymph Nera and her love for the shepherd Velino, which led to the creation of the falls, was a captivating narrative that enchanted both young and old alike. The guides also shared fascinating insights into the unique flora that thrives in this rich environment, making the experience both educational and entertaining for the whole family.

Captivating Views and Family Adventures

The Marmore Falls offers a variety of vantage points, each providing a unique perspective of this natural marvel. We decided to start our exploration from the bottom, where the sheer power and majesty of the falls were most palpable. The mist from the cascading water created a refreshing atmosphere, and my children were thrilled to feel the cool spray on their faces.

After taking in the view from below, we embarked on a hike to reach a higher vantage point. The trail was well-maintained and suitable for families, with plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the surrounding landscape. After our hike, we took some time to relax at one of the many lookouts scattered throughout the park. The children enjoyed a snack from the nearby bar, while my wife and I took the opportunity to reflect on the day’s adventures.

Before leaving, we visited the souvenir shop to pick up a few mementos of our trip. The shop offered a variety of items, from postcards to locally crafted goods, allowing us to bring a piece of the Marmore Falls home with us. As we made our way back, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to share such a remarkable experience with my family.
