Puerto Maldonado Capital of Biodiversity of Peru
Tambopata River - Welcome upon arrival at the airport or bus station, followed by a transfer to the Monte Amazónico office for check-in procedures. A journey ensues to the edge of the Tambopata River. Here, we board a boat to the “Monte amazónico - Tambopata” lodge. Upon arrival, guests are shown to their rooms and served lunch.
In the afternoon, an exploratory trek through the rainforest is planned, offering a chance to observe wildlife in their natural setting, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and a variety of insects.
Collpa Chuncho
Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick - An early start at 4:30 AM for a boat trip to the world’s largest Macaw clay lick, COLLPA CHUNCHO, which takes about 1:30 hours. During the journey, there’s a possibility to spot unique wildlife such as capybaras, the world’s largest rodent, tapirs, and potentially the magnificent South American jaguar. Many visitors have documented these encounters with photographic proof.
Upon reaching the Macaw Collpa, we’ll witness a multitude of parrots of various species congregating to consume the mineral-rich clay from the riverbank. Settling into our viewing spots, we prepare for a spectacular avian display. The vibrant spectacle includes red, green, blue, and yellow macaws, all gathering to ingest the clay that helps detoxify their systems. On days with high activity, the sight of hundreds of these magnificent birds in flight is unforgettable.
After the experience, we return to the lodge for breakfast and relaxation.
Later, a stroll through our botanical garden is offered, showcasing local fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal plants, guided by our knowledgeable staff.
The boat will then transport us back to Puerto Maldonado, retracing the route taken earlier. Upon arrival, guests are transferred to the bus station or airport.
