Puerto Maldonado – Rainforest Expeditions to Sandoval Lake:
Lago Sandoval - We will pick you up from the airport or bus station and transfer you to our office, where you can leave any unnecessary luggage for the trip. Then, we will head to the port and board a boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River until we reach the Reserve’s control point. Here, we will register and enter Sandoval Lake, followed by a 5 km walk through the forest. Upon reaching a small canal, we will board paddle canoes to cross the lake and arrive at the port and lodge, where you will be accommodated in our comfortable rooms. After lunch, we will take a canoe paddle trip, where you might see giant otters (river wolves), black caimans, shanshos (prehistoric birds), turtles, and many bird species. We will return to the lodge for dinner, and afterward, we will visit the lake in the canoe with lanterns to spot black caimans and other species before returning to our comfortable lodge rooms with private showers.
Return Sandoval Lake to Puerto Maldonado:
Lago Sandoval - Start an extraordinary day in the Amazon by waking up to birdsong and enjoying a refreshing drink. We will set out early in a rowing canoe to a special spot where vibrant palm trees attract macaws, parrots, and parakeets, which feast on nutritious fruits rich in vitamins and minerals. We will explore a lush, primary, and virgin forest, discovering imposing giant trees and medicinal plants that have developed over many years. This forest is home to diverse wildlife, including monkeys, tarantulas, frogs, insects, sloth monkeys, and other large animals. Afterward, we will pack our belongings and sail across Lake Sandoval in a paddle canoe, then hike through the rainforest to the checkpoint, where our boat will be waiting. We will sail up the Madre de Dios River back to the city of Puerto Maldonado. Finally, we will transfer your belongings from our office to the airport or bus terminal.
