- Puerto Natales - The adventure begins at the meeting point in Puerto Natales. From there, embark on a journey to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, including glaciers, fjords, and remarkable wildlife on the way to Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. Board the boat and set sail northwest through Ultima Esperanza Fjord, or ‘Final Hope Fjord,’ a channel connecting Eberhard Fjord and Balmaceda Mountain. This fjord was named by Spanish explorer Juan Ladrillero, who hoped it would lead him to the Strait of Magellan, only to find towering ice walls blocking his way.
- Parque Nacional Bernardo O’Higgins - Today, the captain will navigate for three hours to reach the same glaciers that once halted Ladrillero. Enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or juice on deck. For a stronger drink, try a glass of whiskey or pisco sour mixed with ice from Serrano glacier.
Pass by forests and waterfalls cascading down lush hills, and watch the sky for condors. As the boat follows the coastline, observe numerous cormorants on rocky outcrops, either spreading their wings or stretching their elegant necks, accompanied by the sounds of ducks and geese nearby. Sea elephants might even emerge from caves to bask in the sun.
Upon reaching the eastern face of Balmaceda Mountain, standing at 6,676 feet (2,035 meters), witness mists swirling around the ice-capped peak. Disembark for a leisurely hour-long hike through the forests of Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. Follow the guide to an overlook just steps away from Serrano glacier — a vast frozen river of ice flowing down a crevice between hills. Then, trek to the western side of Balmaceda Mountain to capture views of the enormous hanging glacier. Here, sapphire- and turquoise-tinted ice floes cascade over the rocky landscape and end at a lake.
- Puerto Natales - Finally, after being amazed by the stunning ancient glaciers and beautiful Patagonian landscapes, board the boat for a swift 90-minute return journey to Puerto Natales. Enjoy the scenery on the way back!
Upon arrival at the port, a bus or minivan will take you directly to our office in Puerto Natales.
