The fortress functioned as a prison on several occasions and the patrician Juan Pablo Duarte was held there as a political prisoner by order of Pedro Santana.

If travelers come from different meeting points, please go to the central park of Puerto Plata, in front of the town hall. We will pick you up there. This point is central and close to the hotels. In addition, they will be safe since it is an area protected by municipal police.
