Tour around Puerto Montt - Excellent tour, we covered the surroundings of Puerto Montt quite a bit in a single day. It is not necessary to bring food since we went to a restaurant in Puerto Octay. You should bring gear for the weather, as it is very changeable. The guide explains all the places where we are visiting, explains both history and flora and fauna. 100% recommendable

Fabulous - This is a full day tour so make sure you have good shoes, clothing for warmth and all you need for the day. Photos of course because they will be amazing. The area gets a lot of rain. We were very lucky. It is the second time I've been here and the first was more rainy but it cleared up in the afternoon. The boat has inside seats and you can walk outside so it doesn't matter so much if you aren't by the window. We preferred upstairs but both cabins are very comfortable. They have a snack bar and they sell the tours for once you reach Puella. We went on the jeep tour to that beautiful Rio Negro area where you get into a small boat. There were a lot of sand flies but they didn't bite anyone, just an annoyance. The jeep was comfortable. They have other activities such as a zip line, horseback riding and a helicopter tour that takes you over the Andes. That must be fairly expensive, so you might check the price of the helicopter tour. Lunch was served at one of the two hotels and it was fine. They have you go on the tour at Puella first because when you are at lunch you are near the dock and no one goes astray. Just be aware that you will eat probably after 1:00PM. People take the boat and continue on to Bariloche, so they disembark first to get the bus that takes them into Argentina. When you return on the boat, you get on a bus to come back to Puerto Varas directly, dropping people off at various hotels. The tours are run by one company -TurisTours. They were very well organized. You get back to Puerto Varas at about 7PM.

Good Tour of Puerto Montt and Environs - We had a lovely time exploring the Puerto Montt region. Our shore excursion started at the port and we were greeted by Darla, our tour guide. She was friendly and provided commentary on the Puerto Montt region and pointed out local landmarks of our way to the interior. With 25 people in the tour, we were all comfortably settled into a nice touring van. This part of Chile has three active volcanoes and with luck you can manage to see them all on a clear day. We were able to view the gorgeous Petrohue Falls. These falls were like a series of intense rapids cut into a volcanic rock valley. The sheer volume of water coursing down the ravines was very powerful and impressive. This was followed by a trip to the aquamarine waters of Llanquihue Lake. It was a rainy day, so the sights were a bit dimmed, but the lake was pretty nonetheless. With a short stop to a small emerald lake we stopped off to a truly exceptional lunch at one of lakeside restaurants. The buffet was enormous and the food tasty and of high quality. The trip ended with a stop in the pretty lakeside town of Puerto Varas before heading back to port. Overall, this was a great way to get a taste of the Puerto Montt area. Beautiful landscapes are everywhere.
