• Museum of Tahiti and the Islands - The Museum of Tahiti and Her Islands, also known as The House of Treasures, has been situated on its waterfront location for over 50 years. The main exhibition hall was reopened after renovations in May 2023. Explore artifacts that have been hidden in the depths of the British Museum for centuries, such as the God A’A. Although Polynesians lacked metal or pottery, they were remarkably inventive in their constructions.
• Arahurahu Marae - In ancient times, there were hundreds of maraes on Tahiti. However, when Pomare II converted to Christianity, many were destroyed and abandoned. Take a glimpse into pre-European history by visiting the remains of a marae once used for human sacrifice.
• Maraa Grotto - A large lava tube now filled by a freshwater spring, popular with Tahitians on a hot day.
• The Water Gardens of Vaipahi - Once used by the Teva clan in pre-European times for spiritual purification and Polynesian last rites, these gardens have been open to the public since 2010. Freshwater springs, a small waterfall, lotus lilies, and water lilies float on pools teeming with fish and eels.

Explore Tahiti’s west coast, beginning in Papeete and traveling to Papearii on the southern coast. The journey starts at the Museum of Tahiti, followed by a visit to the sacred Marae Arahurahu site. Next, enjoy the Vaipahi Water Gardens before heading back, with a stop at the Maraa Fern Cave on the return trip to Papeete. Additional stops will be made if time allows. The commentary will highlight Polynesian beliefs, history, and culture, both before and after European contact, as well as the region’s geology, flora, and fauna.
