SILLUSTANI - I recently did the half-day tour to Sillustani from Puno, and it was such a memorable experience. The site itself is incredible—seeing the ancient stone towers and learning about their history was fascinating. The view over Lake Umayo was breathtaking, especially as the sun started to set. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, giving us great insight into the pre-Inca cultures and traditions. The tour was well-organized and allowed enough time to explore without feeling rushed. It’s an absolute must-do if you're in Puno!

Good Tour - Tour included a stop at lookout and family home showing way of life and crafts before Sillustani. Sillustani was the best bit though. Guide was good. Tour ran longer than stated. Big comfort bus.

A glimpse of an Andean culture - The tour guide picked me up from the hotel and walked to the taxi. Then we stopped by for a bit to the Mirador del Puma vista to see a vantage point of Lake Titicaca. Then on the way to Sillustani, the tour provided history and pre-history of the Inca. The next stop is at a pueblo where they talk about the way of life in the Andean culture, food: a sampling of different potatoes, cheese, toktochi (quinoa patty) and a taste of clay! Then at the main site, we had to hike to the top of the hill. I did not anticipate this and unfortunately, it was my 1st day in Puno and experiencing altitude sickness. I chose to stay within the entrance and chat with the locals.

Must do! It's well worth the ride, and the two somewhat misfitting stops along the way. - If you visit Sillustani (and you should), do it via a tour guide like Odessey Travel. I booked online as little as 12 hours before, and the logistics went fine. Pickup at hotel of preference, timing, and knowledgeable duolingo guide made this a very pleasant 4 hour afternoon. The guide has the ability to detail the stories on this site in an interesting manner, making these dead piled up stones come to live in a way that you can relive history and get a grasp of what culturals drove in the early aliplano times.

Excellent Cultural Experience - Despite a glitch or two being picked up at our hotel (for which we were willing to pay extra for) this half day experience was excellent. This historic pre-Inc/Inca funerary site site is often overlooked by Puno visitors who generally focus on Lake Titicaca and its islands (also spectacular). Our guide was knowledgeable and fluent in both Spanish and English. The Sillustani site itself is magnificent, peaceful and humbling. I didn't care for the stop at a private home on the way there and wasn't expecting it as it wasn't mentioned in the itinerary but the hosts were friendly and whilst hawking their wares were not aggressive. A couple of very friendly alpacas out front was a photo opportunity. The tour company was called Titikaka Real.
