Highlights
  • Uros Floating Islands - We will be picking you up from your hotel within the historic centre of Puno between 0645 and 0700 in the morning. Before boarding the motor boat to Uros Island we will have a brief stop at the boat pier where you can buy some snacks and bottled water.

Once you would settle in the boat, a local musician would welcome you with an Andean Folkloric music. Our guide would then introduce himself and the captain of the boat before giving you a brief about the day’s itinerary on the World’s highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca.

Our first stop will be at the iconic floating islands of Uros. During the journey from the mainland to one of the Uros Islands, you can see totora plants that grow on Lake Titicaca. These constitute the basic source of food and, at the same time, they serve as a maintenance system that the Uros have to perpetuate the existence of the islands

As the boat would dock in, local women dressed in the local attire would extend a warm welcome to the place they call home.

The head of the island would then demonstrate how they build these islands using totora plants and would share a few words in their native language (Aymara).

Natives here are known for their handicrafts, so you may buy some if you would wish to. You will then have an option of sailing on the traditional totora reed boat (10 Soles) to the main island of Uros. If desired, you can get your passport stamped here as a souvenir.

From here, we will start our boat ride to Taquile islands. You may walk up to the open deck on the upper level of the boat and get some photos of the floating islands that you would be passing through.

A beautiful exploration of the Lake and its cultures - The guide’s English and Spanish was excellent, he was knowledgeable; the trip was well organised and while at points there was some slightly contrived touristy moments - overall - this felt like an amazing exploration of local cultures, in a way that aided rather than harmed their communities; also, the views of the Lake on the - incredibly safe, clean and pleasant - boat were breathtaking. You should book.

A Relaxing Day on the Water - You need a guide for this trip and some are better than others, if you can find someone from the islands that is your best choice. The lake is beautiful and most of the boats seemed to be shipshape and safe. The two cultures are similar but with important differences and it was very good to see both lifestyles. The lake is the 19th largest in the world and 300 meters deep in some places, it is shared between Bolivia and Peru. The walk around Taquile was enjoyable, at the beginning there is a steep hill that affected some due to the altitude, but going up at a slow pace makes it fine for most - much less strenous than other locations like Ollantaytambo or Machu Picchu. To be honest it is quite an effort to get to Puno, and we did not see that there was much more to explore in this area, but it was a lot better tour than I really expected. Worth the effort for sure.

The best lake trip ever - Great Full Day Lake Titicaca Tour. Rubén was a fantastic tour guide! The logistics were flawless and the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Boat was comfortable. And the tour of the islands was informative. Lunch with a local family/restaurant was very good. The scenery was spectacular. An unforgettable day!

Good 👍🏼 - A fun way to learn about Lake Titicaca whilst visiting the Uros and Taquille. Overall the experience was great but would have been better with a smaller group size. Transfers collected us from hotel; minibus had too many people so 2 people had to stand whilst it was driving (very dangerous). On the boat we were put with a total tour size of 50+ people (something which was not mentioned when booking). 1st stop Uros was cool; but make sure to take cash as there is pressure to buy things from the local people. Second stop Taquille was my favourite. Gorgeous island with incredible views of the lake - lots of picture opportunities. Lunch was included here but what was not mentioned was that we would have to walk approximately 50 mins uphill (with a break to watch the locals dance whilst on the way) from the boat to the restaurant. Toilets all cost money so make sure to use the toilets on the boat before getting off (this was not advised by the guide but he also said that we would only take 20 mins to walk to the restaurant…) We arrived at the restaurant an hour after leaving the boat (as the group was massive, we were only as fast as our slowest member). Started quinoa soup, mains was either trout or omelette - food was average, no salt or pepper available on the tables either. Arrived back at 4;45 (almost an hour after the advertised time). Overall a good experience but would recommend a smaller boat/group size.

Lake Titicaca - The Uros Islands were very good. The way of life of these people was something to learn! The Taquillle island was good with natural beauty, but not so enriching! The guide was good and the facilities were fine.

Beautiful and interesting excursion - Great and nice trip with nice environments. Recommend everyone to do this. The guide was very nice and informative. The lunch at Taquile was really good with a great view. The boat ride was comfortable with a chance to sit up on deck. To make matters worse, it felt like you were being forced to pay extra. On the Uros islands, for example, we didn't want to go on the extra boat trip. But we and another party were more or less persuaded to go along because it was important to the community. To add, it cost 15 soles and not 10 as it says in the info. The whole trip was a feeling of having to pay for things a little now and then. I think that the travel agency can add costs that feel important to the booking cost so people don't feel bad.
