All these lands are today part of the Magallanes National Reserve, created by Supreme Decree in 1932, with the aim of protecting the Lynch lagoon basin, which is the main water supplier of the city. Its surface was expanded in 1939, currently covering 20,878 hectares.

Knowledgeable Guide - My wife and I explored the Magellan forest and had a great time. The views were amazing and the hike was a very nice way to be outdoors without being to extreme. Our guide Nicholas spoke great English and was incredibly helpful at answering questions and providing insights into the history of punta arenas and the surrounding area. At the top had panoramic views of the surrounding area for 80+ kilometers.

Flora, Fauna and Mountain Viewpoints in Punta Atenas - The walk through the Magellanes Forest allowed us to see the native tree and plant species as well as planted species in the hills above Punta Arenas. We hiked about 2.5 miles to a lookout with a sweeping view of Puntas Arenas and the surrounding countryside. At Club Andino we rode the chairlift to the top for a commanding view of the city and countryside. The chairlift operators were very accommodating to make sure we were safe both boarding and de-boarding the two person chairlift at the top and at the bottom of the mountain on our return. Our guide Nicholas Varas was a wealth of information about the culture of Punta Arenas and about the flora and fauna during our walk. Nicholas shared his experience and life living in Punta Arenas, and showed us the main square as well as other points of interest when we returned to town. We enjoyed the views and the chance to walk through the Chilean forest. The driver was very experienced and kept us safe throughout the tour, which was limited to the four of us a small group. This excursion is not to be missed for those who enjoy the outdoors and walking.

Pretty sights for a half day tour - Everything we got to see on this tour was very pretty. We were only in Punta Arenas for a short amount of time and were happy to have been able to see a few things around the town. Perfect if you’re looking for something to do during the day but not spend your entire day out!
