Book it! You will have fun! Trust me! - This is a genuine response, nothing coerced as I saw some people say they were forced to give a review. If I followed the negative reviews I would have missed out! The hustling ie people coming to sell you things or ask for money were not overwhelming at all.....Things of course were more expensive so you can simply opt to buy elsewhere but overall it was a good experience and cheaper than other ones. No mechanical issues, buggies were comfortable, some time delays as is expected with group trips but nothing major. Thanks John Carlos!

Need new dune buggy’s - The dune buggy wasn’t bad if your buggy didn’t break down. The transport there and back was hot as hell. I wouldn’t do this again.

Good if You Love Mudding and Adrenaline, Bad if You Hate Feeling Rushed or Hustled - I really was stuck to give this three or four stars. Overall, I want to emphasize my husband and I came into it with an open mind with the expectation that there was going to be some "bumps" in the road (no pun intended). You also have to understand the DR culture and countryside and that everyone is hustling to earn money for their family. If you're aware of this understanding, then this could be the tour for you. I'll start with the Pros: 1. The dune buggies were a blast! They were the best part of the excursion. You get sent onto dirt roads. There is one part where you have to cross the main highway to get to the other side, but your tour guide will direct traffic to get you safely across. You will be taken on country dirt roads that are very rocky, but you get VERY muddy. The dune buggies sit low to the ground, so you are likely to get a lot of mud on you from it getting kicked up from the tires. If you choose an ATV, you're less likely to get mud on your body. However, if you're "country" or love mudding, definitely a plus. This is only if there is mud on the ground, of course. It did rain on our excursion; but the rain clears quickly in the DR. I will say, driving in the rain actually makes it more fun. If you bring electronics such as a camera or phone, I recommend bringing a dry bag to keep your belongings safe. I also recommend getting your own protective eyewear and a gaiter or scarf you don't mind getting dirty to protect your face. 2. The tour guides were very honest about Atabey Park and the area at the water cave. They communicated via WhatsApp and prefaced that there were persistent vendors on the tour to and from the water cave and they are not responsible for this happening, but they emphasize if you don't want to buy, then politely say "No Thank You." They were honest at recommending cash versus card due to high rates on using card. 3. They have photographers that take excellent photos and edit them quickly before your tour is over. Great for memories! Now on to the Cons: 1.) The third party wasn't truly Universal Excursions. We were instead taken to El Bori Adventures. They have their own website. To add to it, the transportation was a little disorganized -- further explained in #2. 2.) Transportation was sketchy. We were picked up at the gate outside our resort in a. regular car before taken to the main highway at a drop off point and switched to a van. This can be very nerve-wracking to tourists, especially those who live in countries where this can be not the norm. This made it very disorganized. You could imagine our relief when we saw other tourists from other resorts in the van. 3. ) The water cave was very underwhelming. It was dark and small. The water is deep, but you can rent vests for $2 USD if you're not a strong swimmer. It was also very crowded. There is a small set of steps that lead down to the cave, but it is also the only way back up. We also did not spend a full hour there. It was more like 20-30 minutes. It is probably better to go to a cenote that is reviewed from other websites or just a Google click away. 4.) You will hear that the area is a "tourist trap." Everywhere you go, there are vendors who will ask you to buy. You can haggle prices if needed, but it can be a little annoying when you're just trying to enjoy the environment. There was also a set of vendors just outside of the water cave. 5.) Macao Beach was pretty, but also, we only spent 20 minutes there versus 1 hour like Viator promised. There were also a lot of vendors there, but will leave you alone if you politely decline. There were some people who also tried to wash your feet from the stand and mud and immediately request money after washing your feet. TLDR on the hustling: Just be vigilant about everything, politely decline, and don't accept anything in your hands that you're not ready to pay for.

My experience - I was told my pickup would be 10:30am but didn't arrive until 45 minutes later to get in a van that had no air conditioning. The buggies did not look or feel safe, the beach was nice but too many vendors. The cave was not what we expected you get to jump in and that was it no swimming in the cave. All in all the experience was not good would not recommend this company.

Good adventure, bad service provider - Not the company in the description, services provide by company name “El Bori” not Universal Experience. The boggy were in terrible conditions, even unsafe at some point, I understand the terrain can create damages on the equipment but even in strait pavement the vehicle was zip-sagging, tires worn down. I completely understand the type of vehicle I was getting in to but these were too bad. Another companies have way better buggies. Not doing this company again.

Do not book this trip! - Dont bother booking this company. Their atvs and buggy broke down 5x during our trip and had to change vehicles multiple times. We didnt even get to enjoy the experience and we were rushed through every stop. We lost a phone during the activity and they didnt even bother to help, we have a feeling they found it on the atv and kept the phone for themselves. Requested a refund. We are so disappointed!!!!
