Inside Tours Costa Rica offered a tour to Tortuga Island that promised a respite from the mundane, and I was eager, even if a little hesitant, as the van took us from the bustle of the city to the coast, a gateway to a secluded paradise. The van, mercifully air-conditioned, held a peculiar calm. Our guide was a maestro in his own right—leading us with a quiet assurance, his gaze steady, his every gesture filled with reverence for the land he called home. He was an alchemist, weaving together facts and folklore, an ambassador not just of Costa Rica, but of the natural world that we too often overlook. Each stop, each glance at the passing landscape, he filled with the allure of the unknown, a kind of gentle instruction on how to appreciate the things we often take for granted. When we arrived at Tortuga Island, the world felt a little brighter. The sand was warm beneath our feet, and the sea glittered invitingly, a vast expanse that promised something magical. Lunch, a simple offering of either chicken or a delicate fish fillet, tasted of the island’s offerings, its freshness a testament to Costa Rica’s respect for its resources. We enjoyed local coffee and afternoon biscuits and enjoyed the views bursting with a vividness that echoed the day’s beauty. The sea was like stepping into another world. I’d seen pictures, of course, but nothing prepares you for that first descent, the water cool and startling, and suddenly you’re surrounded by a universe teeming with color and life. As we ended the long's day's journey, I felt a quiet contentment, a feeling I would carry with me long after I left Costa Rica, as intangible and precious as the sea’s breeze.

AVOID. Unsafe and Viator refused to give a partial refund! - DO NOT RECOMMEND! Safety: **gangway railing handhold rope not secure, when i used it, it gave way and i almost fell. **Gangway incredibly slippery and dangerous, my elderly sister in law did fall, and was lucky to escape injury. **boat not designed for snorkeling entry, my wife injured her back when trying to exit Amenities: Soda was supposed to be included, but was not. No drinks offered during 2+ hours we were on the boat, nor while ashore. Tea only provided at lunch. Good thing we brought our own water! Schedule: Arrived back much later than scheduled, almost missed our cruise ship all-aboard time.
