The area’s center is located at Puntarenas which acts as a place for lodging, distribution, port of call, and excursions. The city of Puntarenas is rich in history, traditions and customs. Historically, it was the most important port in the Costa Rican Pacific, through which the main exports that allowed the development of the country during the 19th century and part of the 20th century took place. Due to its coastal position, it was an important center for the arrival of immigrants towards the middle of the 20th century. Its boom as a tourist destination dates back to 1940.

This excursion includes a trek through the rainforest situated in the Tarcolitos River canyon, a section of the 200-hectare private preserve belonging to Hotel Villa Lapas. The journey, covering a total of 3.2km, crosses the river eight times using a slow-speed tractor-drawn cart, enabling you to thoroughly appreciate the unique flora and fauna of the remarkable Carara region in Costa Rica. The tour includes several pauses for bird spotting and observing significant trees in the locale, as well as a halt at the river where participants can alight from the wagon to swim in the pool. The two carts utilized for this adventure can accommodate 24 individuals, and the trek lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Post this exhilarating journey, our excursion will proceed with a brief drive to Tarcoles River, followed by a scenic boat tour offering splendid wildlife views, inclusive of massive crocodiles.
