• Tarcoles - The river’s upper reaches form the northern border of Carara National Park. It is a habitat for American crocodiles, while the marshes at the river’s mouth host many waterfowl and wading birds. Among the many herons and egrets are the boatbill and bare-throated tiger heron. Other birds found here include the double-striped thick-knee, mangrove warbler, and American pygmy kingfisher. The total known list of birds exceeds 320 species, including those in the little-known Guacalillo Canals. The avian biodiversity is substantial, featuring rare birds such as the Agami Heron, Rufous-necked Woodrail, Jabiru, Yellow-billed Cotinga, and the recently discovered Orinoco Goose. It’s also home to Howler and White-faced Capuchin Monkeys. Less commonly seen are the Silky Anteater, Sloths, Grison, Jaguarundi, River Otter, and Northern Tamandua.

Gear up and kick off your mountain biking journey at the edge of the jungle. Navigate through winding paths, where the terrain offers a mix of exhilarating descents and challenging ascents.

After this great adventure, our tour will continue with a short drive to Tarcoles River, where a 60 minutes eco boat tour will allow you to enjoy the abundant wildlife of the area, including the huge crocodiles, multiple aquatic birds, scarlet macaws, howler monkeys and other amazing tropical species.
