We then drove to see the temple in Ajmer and the Pushkar lake, with plenty of snack and drink stops on the way. It felt more like road tripping with friends instead of a tour. Would do it again.

Be aware that when you are at the... -
Be aware that when you are at the Brahma temple in Pushkar, while doing Pooja religious ritual offering at the lake, you will be pressured by the temple's guide to donate to the local religious community and he will guilt-trip you into doing so, explaining how the community and children are poor and survive purely on donations. Like many temples in India, this is just another business arrangement to collect money from tourists. Guilt-tripping tourists at a purportedly spiritual site is both inappropriate and vulgar.
