• Pushkar Lake - As per Hindu scriptures, the revered Pushkar Lake is known as ‘Tirtha Raj’, the king of all pilgrimage sites. A pilgrimage is deemed incomplete without taking a dip in the holy waters of Pushkar Lake. Shaped like a semi-circle and approximately 8-10 meters deep, Pushkar Lake is encircled by 52 bathing ghats and over 400 temples, making it a truly spectacular sight.
• Savitri Temple - This temple, dedicated to Goddess Savitri, the first wife of Lord Brahma, is perched on a hillock just behind the Brahma temple. Climbing the long flight of steps to the temple offers a panoramic view of the lake, nearby temples, and sand dunes. The presence of the only Brahma Temple in Pushkar is due to Savitri’s curse on Brahma for marrying another Goddess, Gayatri, while commencing his yagna in Pushkar.
• Brahma Temple - The Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, dedicated to Lord Brahma, the Hindu God of Creation, is situated near the sacred Pushkar Lake. Although the ancient structure is around 2000 years old, the current building dates back to the 14th century. Pushkar boasts over 500 temples, many of which are ancient, but the Brahma temple holds the most significance. According to legend, Brahma descended to earth to perform a yajna and selected this site for his temple. In the 8th century, the Hindu philosopher Adi Shankara took on the task of renovating the temple, but the current structure is attributed to Maharaja Jawat Raj of Ratlam, who repaired and slightly modified it. The temple’s inner sanctum is dedicated to Lord Brahma and his second wife, Gayatri. Constructed from marble and stone slabs, the temple’s red pinnacle (shikhara) is visible from afar, and it features a distinctive hamsa (bird) motif. During Kartik Poornima, coinciding with the Pushkar Fair, the town hosts a festival in honor of Brahma. Devout pilgrims visit the temple after bathing in the sacred Pushkar Lake. The Brahma temple is recognized as one of the ten most religious places in the world and is considered one of the five sacred pilgrimage destinations for Hindus.
